Would you like to continue to enjoy the foods you like without resorting to any diet or special diet, but also without worrying that your scales will play a party again?

The little tricks below, one of which may not be familiar to you, are gathered from all over the world, being part of the traditions or customs (healthy!) of other people.

1. Finish your meal before you feel full

Residents of Okinawa, Japan, whose BMI (body mass index, which you can read in a note at the end of this article) is 21.5, use a type of diet called "Hara Hachi bu", an expression that can be translated by the words "eat until you are 80% full". plenty of food to be the village.

If you place your fork on the table when you have the first feeling of satiety, you allow the brain to feel like you are in the village before you get stuffed like a sausage.

2. Use a few drops of healthy oils

Healthy fats, such as olive oil, specific to the Mediterranean diet, and canola (rapeseed) oil, characteristic of the Okinawan diet, give vegetables or salads an extra flavor, thus tempting you to eat more vegetables. Such a diet is a key factor in maintaining healthy body weight.

3. When you eat, eat and that's it!

Probably no other culture has the tendency to indulge in Americans, to indulge in food in front of the TVs, to nibble more than necessary at a fast food car, or to gulp down a hamburger kept in one hand while the other is busy holding the steering wheel.

In Japan, it is rude or inappropriate to eat while walking. In France, it seems that the habit of eating behind the wheel has not taken root. Eating and drinking are not things to run away from, just like refueling your car or throwing your grocery shopping bags in a hurry.

In cases where you are distracted from work, television, a book lying on the table, or traffic on the street, you tend to overeat without realizing it. If you give the food the attention it deserves, without getting involved in other activities, you get tired much faster and you don't risk gaining a few extra pounds.

4. Move a lot

Learn to create the habit of moving more. It may be harder for you at first, but once you get used to it, you will feel more and more comfortable with time, which will be confirmed by the once fateful numbers on the scales.

People from Asian countries, but also those in some Mediterranean areas, tend to be much softer because they are more active. He does not devote too much time to fitting rooms; I just walk more.

5. Get used to regulated meals

It is said that the French women do not put too much bacon on them because they strictly observe the ritual of the 3 daily meals. You may think that if you skip a meal, you cut off some unwanted calories from the list without mercy, but this only triggers in the body the so-called "response to the fear of hunger", which gives rise to slight overeating.

Late, it seems that during the evolutionary process of man, the body, often frustrated by food, has been programmed to pack as much as it can after a period of willful or unwanted starvation.

Under no circumstances should you skip breakfast! Studies have shown that people who eat in the morning are slimmer than those who neglect breakfast.

6. Eat with others

Dinner or lunch with family or friends has its roots in tradition and is usually an opportunity to relax, but also to maintain your figure. Meals taken with others tend to defeat the behavior of eating a lot.

On such an occasion, you eat more slowly, which increases the chances that a feeling of satiety will set in before you overeat.

7. Have a snack only when you are hungry

In the western world and, in some places, people eat for all sorts of reasons unrelated to hunger: boredom, loneliness, stress, or even fear. You can't turn food into a solution to all the problems in life and at the same time not gain weight.

Various disorders or psychological problems can be channeled into other activities, for example by dedicating to a hobby, yoga, or meditation.

8. Don't refuse a glass of wine (only one!)

A custom in France or the Mediterranean area, the wine that accompanies a meal adds a touch of good mood and, due to its strong content of antioxidants, frequently prevents cardiovascular disease.

Although some researchers believe that we tend to eat more when we drink, a recent Finnish study found that men who drink are thinner than those who abstain from alcohol altogether.

Note: What is BMI?

Abbreviation for the English term "Body Mass Index", BMI can be translated as the body mass/index and represents the ratio between a person's body mass (in kilograms) and his height (in meters) raised to the second power.

Researchers have determined that the risk of heart disease is higher than the BMI. Here are the standard body mass index values:

  • BMI <19, overweight person.
  • BMI = 19 - 25, a person with a normal weight.
  • BMI = 26 - 29, overweight person.
  • BMI = 30 - 39, obese person.
  • BMI = 40 very obese person.
