Healthy, luminous skin is something that everyone wants. When summertime and swimsuit season comes around, it is even more important since you will most likely be showing off more skin than usual after hiding under layers all winter. Here are a few tips to incorporate into your routine to keep your skin looking great and keep you feeling confident!

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a great way to keep skin looking healthy and young. Rubbing away the old, dead skin cells with a brush, cloth, or scrub will reveal the new and glowing area underneath. Be careful to be gentle, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Moisturize

The summer heat may be a welcome relief after those long, cold winter months. But all that warmth isn’t exactly kind to your skin. The hot air can dry out your skin, so you need to remember to moisturize at least once daily. Apply a quality moisturizer to your entire body. And don’t forget to include your feet! They will most likely be spending quite a bit of time on display in sandals this season and are one of the areas most prone to dryness, so show them some love.

Hydrate

Proper hydration is key to great skin and great health. If you are spending a good deal of time outdoors, or in any activity that involves you sweating, pay close attention to your water intake to ensure that you are getting enough.

Drinking plenty of water keeps your skin looking clear. It can even make the skin look tighter with smaller pores and fend off wrinkles. All great reasons to drink enough water each day. An easy solution is to carry a water bottle with you. You can even include fruit or perhaps mint leaves for a flavor boost.

Exercise

Exercising can improve the appearance of your skin by increasing blood flow and clearing out toxins through sweating. Wear the proper clothing while exercising so that you don’t experience irritation from any rubbing or chafing. Keep in mind that cardio isn’t the only type of beneficial exercise either. A daily yoga practice can build lean muscle and have the added benefit of reducing stress and calming the mind.

Eat Right

Everyone knows that diet plays a major role in the look of your overall body health and shape, but it is equally important for your skin. Eating healthy, whole foods rich in vitamins and minerals will help to keep your skin supple and smooth. Not to mention that a diet that avoids heavy fast-food and junk-food options will keep you feeling energetic instead of sluggish and tired.

Spray Tan

A beautiful tan can make your skin look fantastic, but with all the health concerns over spending an extended amount of time in the sun, get that tan the healthy way with safe spray tanning! Sunless spray tanning is a fast and affordable process that can be done with an airbrush. Full body treatments are available as well as ones that focus only on the face and neck or just the upper or lower body.

Lather Up

Sunscreen is an absolute must to protect your gorgeous skin from the sun's harmful UV Rays. Be sure to apply an appropriate SPF (usually 30 is recommended as a minimum) daily, even if it’s cloudy. Don’t assume your makeup has you covered either. Check the labels and make sure that your face has adequate sun protection. And keep in mind that sunscreen will wear off throughout the day, even faster with activities that involve being in the water or sweating a lot, so you will need to reapply often.

Proper skin care is necessary all year round, but it is especially important to pay attention to during the summer. With a little extra care and attention, you can ensure that you are keeping your skin protected and healthy so that you can enjoy every moment spent outside in the sun.
