If 2020 has told us anything, health is wealth.

No-one expected the Coronavirus to come and ruin so many people’s lives. Millions have died, and those who remain question whether normality will ever return.

But what if this is how life has to remain? Maybe COVID-19 will never leave us in peace. Regardless, it is more important than ever to be healthy.

We must try to enhance our immune systems and improve our bodies. While mentally, it is crucial to stay sane in a bleak reality.

Here is how to become a healthier version of yourself in 2021.

Make Exercise A Priority

You may have heard about the importance of exercise. Yet, now it is more vital than ever. 2021 is the time to change your body for the better.

Too many people make New Year’s resolutions and never stick to them. The prospect of transforming yourself is always exciting. Until you realize how much work you need to put in for it to occur.

But now you have extra motivation. The Coronavirus should encourage you to become a healthier version of yourself.

By making exercise a priority in 2021, you are killing two birds with one stone. On the one hand, you can work towards your fitness goals. At the same time, you will improve your physical health, which can protect against COVID-19.

Some physical benefits of exercise include:

• Lower body fat

• Reduce cholesterol

• Improve cardio

• Less blood pressure

Yet, the mental advantages of exercise are underrated. With the pandemic around, keeping anxiety and depression stable can be difficult. Thus, physical activity can help to reduce stress and improve your mental health.

Swap Procrastination For Self-Improvement

Procrastination can make you unhealthy. Why bother exercise or try to improve yourself when you can watch Netflix all day? The comfort zone is a disease in itself. It can stop you from ever reaching your full potential while making you depressed in the process.

Thus, start practicing acts of self-improvement in 2021. Not only will it benefit you in the future. But you will feel a greater sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. Here are some ideas for self-improvement:

• Study a new language

• Read books

• Learn a skill

• Meditation

• Exercise

• Start a business

• Listen to a motivational audiobook/podcast

Studying a new language is a fantastic way of stimulating your mind. Pick a language you are fond of and start. Or you can choose one which relates to your heritage. I have been studying Italian since the first lockdown in the UK. You can make a lot of progress when consistent.

Self-improvement will always be worth more of your time than video games and Netflix. Try to make these habits part of your routine. So you can improve mental toughness and get out of your comfort zone.

We often do not realize the effect some people can have on our health and well-being. We have all had friends who are pessimistic about everything. Or who are insecure and try to discourage you.

Getting rid of these people is a vital step to mental clarity. Miserable people will do everything in their power to bring you down. If the people around you are unhealthy and negative, there is a high chance you will be the same. So removing them is a weight off your shoulder.

“You become the average of the five people you hang out with”

Try to surround yourself with those who inspire you. For example, if you want to lose weight, hang out with some fitness fanatics. You may notice a good influence on you, and you may pick up good habits. Such as exercising and eating healthy.

Likewise, if you have a negative mindset, spend time with positive, ambitious people. Before you know it, your outlook on life will be completely different.

But what does all this have to do with being healthy?

The people you surround yourself with can affect your actions. Negative people can worsen your mental health, as you will have no excitement in life. Likewise, those who don’t take care of their bodies may influence you to do the same.

Final Thoughts

To conclude, becoming a healthier version of yourself is all about the actions you take. Your decisions dictate your emotions and well-being.

Exercise should be a massive priority in your life. It is one of the few things which can improve both your physical and mental health. If you neglect it, becoming healthier will be challenging.

Swapping procrastination for self-improvement is crucial for your mental health. Nothing grows in a comfort zone, and this includes your mental toughness.

Getting rid of toxic people ensures you have the right influences in your life. Unhealthy people can drag you down. When you remove them, it will be easier to focus on your goals.

Finally, 2021 has the potential to be your best year. Use the crisis in the world as motivation to become the healthiest version of yourself.
