Can tells us, "Many people who do not enjoy exercise find that being social is a terrific distraction. In particular, I encourage joining local groups for a meetup or club. There are numerous activities available for those who want to interact and be active at the same time, many of which may be done independently or in a group setting (or both)."

1 Plan outdoor activities such as hiking, walking, and rock climbing

If you despise "exercise," grab your rucksack and lace up your sneakers because hiking is an excellent way to lose weight. You may enjoy the scenic beauty of nature while burning more calories than simply strolling. (According to Healthline, choosing a route with a steeper grade would result in you burning even more calories each hour.) A 180-pound person can burn 435 calories per hour hiking at a moderate pace with a 1-5 percent grade, compared to 287 calories per hour strolling at a moderate pace (via Healthline).

"Outdoor activities, such as hiking, can also be done independently, and you can combine your favorite podcast, music, or book," Can says.

2 Join a local sports league

Spring is the ideal season to join a local sports league, such as kickball, softball, or soccer. Softball, for example, can help you burn an estimated 480 calories in an hour of play (based on a male who weighs 190 pounds). The nicest aspect of participating in a team activity is that you will be having so much fun that you will lose track of, well, losing your calories!

3 Practice yoga

Put on your namaste. Yoga is a very popular pastime for good reason. There are many various forms of yoga, ranging from vinyasa to restorative to Bikram (a sort of hot yoga), so you may pick one that meets your specific interests.

Oh, and brace yourself for the calorie burn. According to Colorado State University studies, women can burn up to 330 calories and men can burn up to 460 calories when participating in a Bikram yoga class. Bikram yoga has also been shown to improve lower body strength, balance, and range of motion in both the lower and upper body. What's not to like about that?

4 Do leisurely or group biking

Let's face it: biking is always the best type of outdoor recreation. You'll also be burning calories as you do it. A 155-pound person can burn around 298 calories during a 30-minute medium paced bike ride (12 to 13.9 mph). A 185-pound person can burn around 355 calories while pedaling outside during that time period (via Healthline).

Outdoor activities can be a lot more enjoyable when you're not alone. "You can invite a friend to join you on the outdoor activities to increase the 1:1 social connections and take your mind off the workout," Can suggests.

5 Get involved in low-impact sports, such as tennis, golf, and pickleball

Pickleball is the current sporting trend, and it appears that everyone is jumping on board. It's not just a lot of fun, but it's also an amazing cardio workout, making it a fantastic way to burn fat if you despise "exercising."

The game may be quite strenuous, and it appears that you can burn between 8 and 11 calories per minute of play. According to the Columbia Association, the game is slower-paced than tennis, which is better for your joints and improves coordination and balance. It's also a terrific way to meet new people. Put this low-impact sport on your to-do list, and you'll be right on trend while also burning fat.
