Every Stressed Person Does This, Change My Mind.

What's It With Stressed People These Days?

Nowadays, it seems like almost everybody is stressed out 24/7, and a lot of people are visiting psychologists or mental coaches after they had a bad experience with something - I don't think this helps a lot in the long term.

As I have mentioned in a previous article, I like being quiet and observant in crowded places as an introverted person.

Usually, we humans learn a lot from our past mistakes, more than we can learn from a coach, psychologist, or a hundred 'self-help' books.

In theory, learning from your mistakes is very easy: do the opposite.

Even learning from other people's mistakes can massively help you! By avoiding others' mistakes, you can stimulate your own growth and prevent some important life failures.

Let's try to figure out why we are stressed but observe stressed people and find out about their habits.

Getting Too Much Information.

The majority of people consume too much information on a day. This can cause severe stress.

The News, Social Media Posts, Texts, or even a simple Push Notification from a random app you installed a year ago. All these platforms push their information to you, and while you consume and process all the information, you get stressed because you forget about the 'real' world and 'real' life.

"A wealth of information creates

a poverty of attention."

― Herbert A. Simon

There is really no good reason to check your phone every single minute. It's only good for stress and anxiety to come into your mind.

What to do about it?

You might know the concept of detoxing, according to the Cambridge Dictionary:

A period when you stop taking unhealthy or harmful foods, drinks, or drugs into your body for a period of time, in order to improve your health.

We, humans, sometimes need a little break from everything. Just some time off from everything that's happening in the world.

For me and many other people, a 'digital detox' can be amazing and very helpful. It helps to get your focus back and increase your mental health.

Small changes to your life every day could greatly impact your mental health and take your stress away. For example: start limiting your time on social media and the various news apps or stop checking your emails every hour.

Chaos, Chaos… Chaos.

Each person has 24 hours in a day, every day. That's not an excuse not to achieve something. It's not a lack of time but a lack of time-management.

"A man who dares to waste one hour of life has not discovered the value of life."

- Charles Darwin

You were not born to do as many tasks as possible. No, you should only contribute to meaningful things, and to stay mentally healthy, you need to prioritize yourself over too many unnecessary things that aren't so valuable to you.

Because in the end, you'll find yourself being tired, stressed, and burned out really easily.

What to do about it?

I will repeat myself: each person has 24 hours in a day, use those hours! If something really has priority and you really want to do it, you should make time.

When you turn off your phone for a week, stop talking about nonsense, or even wake up earlier - you have plenty of opportunities to create some time.

It's just a matter of self-management.

"If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else."

― Yogi Berra

Practically this means you plan your next day every evening, for example. Set yourself goals and give your day a purpose.

That's the only way to structure your day properly.

Never Rest

A common fault that causes stress is the lack of rest, whether physical or mental. By increasing your workload and decreasing your amount of sleep, you'll eventually kill your body and mind.

You don't need to take away rest to succeed in life. That's not the case; if you want to succeed, you should instead rest.

"I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?"

- Ernest Hemingway

What to do about it?

There are a couple of things you can do to get better rest/sleep.

  1. Stop cutting your rest because of unnecessary things like 'work.' Sleep is one of the most important things to keep stress away.
  2. The moment you realize you have too little time to accomplish your work, you are probably doing your time management wrong (see Chaos, Chaos… Chaos.).
  3. Stop spending time on work, and instead do things that improve your mental health and enjoy your life.

Good sleep is something that will make you more productive and motivates you during the day.

"I don't know if you've ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That's why I'm trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning."

― Stephen Chbosky

Unhealthy Food

"You become what you think.

You are what you eat."

- Barbara Cartland

Poor diets often cause stress. Lots of sugar and little exercise or knowledge in your body can decrease motivation, productivity, concentration, and in the worst-case scenario, it can cause stress or burnouts.

Energetic people are usually really productive and feed their bodies the proper way.

What to do about it?

I'm not going to tell you to switch to a difficult diet. It doesn't have to be very difficult or complicated. Small daily changes can result in good things.

Get rid of the cheap junk food and get yourself a really healthy natural meal. So try avoiding the fast-food chains and prepare a weekly shopping list.

"It's never too late to change old habits."

- Florence Griffith Joyner

Trying to change yourself (naturally) is a beautiful thing, and everybody should at least try it once in their lives. Making a better version of yourself really feels good, and I recommend it to everybody.
