While this is inevitable, there are several things you can do to help ensure your children remain as healthy as possible during the colder months of the year. By eating the right foods, adding the right supplements like mulberry extract, and using the tips below, it is possible to reduce how often your children are ill.

Wash Hands Regularly

Children must wash their hands often using warm water and soap. While this may seem obvious, it is something worth mentioning. It is also important to note that washing your hands using soap and water is much more useful than just using hand sanitizer.

Send Kids to Bed Earlier

Another tip that can help reduce cases of colds in your children is to ensure they are getting plenty of sleep. Your children need to go to bed earlier to help fight off viruses. However, for younger children, they should not go to bed any later than 8 PM.

The main reason for this is because it is challenging to get plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. This is especially true for children who are often pickier eaters. If you don’t want to use a supplement, try to encourage your child to eat flaxseed, walnuts, avocados, and fish, which are all full of omega-3 fatty acids.

Increase Vitamin D Consumption

Vitamin D is a type of antioxidant that has been backed by research. It can help to reduce the likelihood of catching a cold, and if you do happen to catch a cold, it can reduce the severity of your symptoms. While vitamin C may get more hype, vitamin D is just as important. This is especially true in the winter months when the sun is not as intense.

There is an array of health benefits offered by warm tea with lemon and honey. It offers immune-boosting powers and can “dry up” a child if they are dealing with excess mucus. Try to give it to your child before bed to help them sleep better.

Use Thieves Oil

Even if you do not know much about essential oils, there is a lot of research about Thieves oil (as long as it is mixed with a carrier oil) and using it on a child’s body or diffusing it in their room. This is beneficial for fighting off colds and similar illnesses.
