Daily Tarot Reading for January 27, 2023

Embrace the change

In this series, I am pulling two cards from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck each day, and reading them with the intention of finding insights about today. The cards are a reflection of ourselves and of things we might already know. They are a tool we can use to gain insights and further our intuition but they do not tell us what to do. They merely help us understand our situations and provide insights into our lives.

Today I did as I always have, shuffled the cards, and meditated on today’s date, January 27, 2023. The cards that came to me for today are Death and the Queen of Cups.

The Death of the King is a powerful card from the major arcana. And mostly so because we often have a strong reaction to it when it comes up in readings. But as is often the case in tarot, there is a deeper, veiled meaning behind every card. And the Death card is no exception.

The imagery of the card is one of Death riding a white horse. The whole scene is in a lush valley. The King lies on the ground just beneath Death and his horse. A clergyman is looking at Death and reaching his hands out to him perhaps pleading with him. A child looks on as another looks away. And the sun is setting behind two towers. This card features a lot of blue in it. And there is a fair amount of water in the background. The color blue symbolizes water and water often speaks of emotions or relationships But it can also symbolize flow. As in the flow of life. Without water, there can be life on our planet at least. I see a lot of life in this card despite the dead man laying on the ground. It is said that this card is about changes that may be coming or of transformations. The horse is a symbol of work or effort and her color, white speaks of purity and perfection. This card startles people when it comes up but its meaning is nothing more than change is on the way. That something new is coming. And change can be a scary thing for some people. I recommend embracing the change. Lean into it and make it a part of your life. Even if it seems tough at first.

Our second card, The Queen of Cups features a woman, the Queen, sitting on her throne near a river. She is wearing a robe of white and blue that flows down to her feet and then seems to flow into the river. She carries an ornate cup in her right hand. Her face is turned down and I feel she is contemplating a vision she sees in the cup. She could represent a person, a fair woman. A dreamy woman perhaps. Perhaps the woman of your dreams. She sees something in the cup, what she sees is not sure but she is in the middle of seeing something. Is it a future vision? The past? Taken together with the death card, I see that she is seeking more information about the changes that are coming. Nothing is certain yet, but I feel that there is something positive about the change coming. Because she is in the suit of cups there is a fair amount of emotion surrounding this card. This card speaks of happiness as well as success.

The sense I get from these two cards is that there is a change or transformation coming. Again this seems to be a theme in my readings lately. The Queen of Cups tells us that she sees something good in what is coming. I see this as a reassurance that things will be good. Embrace the change and enjoy the ride you’re on. Have faith that what comes may seem strange or scary but in the end, it’s going to be good.

That’s my reading for today. If you enjoyed this reading or if it resonated with you please leave a comment and let me know. If it doesn’t resonate with you perhaps there is a friend who might need to hear this message. Consider sharing it with them. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
