Tarot reading for today

In this series, I’m performing daily two-card readings and sharing them with you here. If this reading doesn’t resonate with you consider sharing it with a friend who might. And I also want to add that tarot cards do not make decisions about our futures. We do. We take what resonates with us and choose our own paths. Ultimately our decisions are our responsibility.

I again meditated for a minute with the cards in my hand. And spent some time thinking about today before clearing my mind and pulling two cards from the deck. The cards that were given to me are the 8 of Swords and The Sun.

The 8 of swords depicts a woman in a long red dress standing in a barren landscape. She is blindfolded and bound around her torso. She is surrounded by 8 swords stuck in the ground around her. There is a town in the distance. There is a trickle of water at her feet.

First off, 8 is a number about abundance and material prosperity. It can also be about power or authority. The swords represent the element of air and often speak to matters of intelligence and the conscious mind. The water in the card symbolizes emotions and the fact that there is water on the ground suggests a certain recklessness with emotions. If this person cared for their emotions better it would be in a cup or some other container.

In this card, I get the feeling of being trapped. Of being in a place you don’t want to be. Feeling like you’re stuck and can’t get out. Can’t get away. But the feeling of being trapped is just in the mind. Just thoughts preventing you from being free. If you could find a way to take off the blindfold it would be apparent that it was just in your head and you’d also see that you have all that you need to free yourself once you’re able to see through the veil of thoughts you have created for yourself.

Our second card for today is The Sun. Now the last card seems a little dark and down but this card gives us some hope. This card is a happy card. It depicts a naked child riding a white horse who is throwing off a red robe of some kind. The sun looms large in the sky shining down on the earth, warm and soothing. Four large sunflowers grow in a planter or a garden.

The white horse is a symbol of purity and protection. The child symbolizes a sense of newness. Perhaps it can be seen as naiveté but I feel it’s more like the joy that we had when we were kids. Happy and free and just able to be free and have fun. And I feel this card is trying to tell us that it’s going to be ok. It’s going to be good. In conjunction with the past card, once we free ourselves from our thoughts, which are trapping us, we will see that everything will be just fine. That if there’s any worry about dropping those thoughts and how it might change you… this card is telling us that it will be for the better. That we don’t have to fear anything. That we can feel good about who we are and what we do, and break free from that which is holding us back from truly realizing our potential.

I hope you enjoyed this reading. Please leave a comment if this reading resonated with you and if it hasn’t, please share it with someone who might need to hear this message today. I thank you for reading and wish you a good day.
