Almost everyone has some of the same themes in their dreams.

Many people claim they don't dream. Scientists and researchers say everyone dreams. It is just that they do not remember their dream. In fact, it has been determined that it is unhealthy for people not to dream. The average person dreams about two to three times every night. Some people dream up to seven times. The number of dreams depends on how long a person sleeps.

There are many universal symbols that mean the same general thing for everyone. There are also personal symbols that have specific meanings that are different depending on who the dreamer is. For instance, a farmer who dreams about an apple will have a different interpretation than a teacher dreaming about an apple. A nutritionist will have a different meaning about the same item. Usually what you dream about while you are asleep is something related to what affects you while you are awake.

There is a long list of common symbols in dreams. Here are just a few of them that almost everyone has dreamed about.

  • Water
  • Losing purse, pocketbook, or wallet
  • Childhood house
  • Food
  • Clothes
  • Missing a school bus
  • Vehicle
  • Falling

Think back over a dream you have had in the past. It is almost certain that you have dreamed about one or more of the above themes.

Water

Water is one of the most universal symbols dreamers have. Water symbolizes our emotions because it represents the ebb and flow of life. Dreaming about water could mean your life is in need of a cleansing. In order to get a more exact interpretation, you should be aware of the form the water appeared in your dream.

  • To dream about clear water is a good sign. It means you are in tune with your spirituality, and you are at peace with what is going on in your life.
  • Rising water indicates you are angry or upset about something.
  • Muddy water means you are not seeing things clearly. It also indicates that you have some negative emotions that need to be addressed. If you are immersed in muddy water, you are in over your head about some situation.

Losing Your Wallet or Purse

To lose your wallet, purse, or pocketbook in a dream is not a good sign. The dream is letting you know that you will lose power in some area. That's because your wallet or purse is part of who you are.

The interpretation is not about the wallet itself. It is about your personal documents that you keep there. The documents are proof of your identity. They include your driving license, social security card, credit cards, library card, cash, checkbook, and other forms of identification that prove who you are. To dream that your wallet was lost, misplaced, or stolen is a warning that you are losing your identity in some way.

Childhood House

If you have ever dreamed about the house, school, or neighborhood you grew up in, it is a clear indication that your dream is trying to remind you of something you left undone when you were a child.

There is something in the back of your mind that keeps coming up in your dreams to warn you to deal with something from long ago. Even though you have grown up and moved on, there is some unfinished business in your childhood that you left behind.

Food

Food is a symbol of emotional and spiritual nourishment. To be hungry in a dream means there is something missing in the dreamer's life. He is "hungry" for that thing that is missing. Usually, the dreamer sees a bounty of food, but it is unavailable to him. The dreamer might see others eating and enjoying themselves, but he doesn't get any food to eat.

The interpretation is that something is missing in the dreamer's life that is preventing him from being satisfied. The dream is a sign that the dreamer should examine his life to find out what's missing that prevents him from being satisfied.

Clothes

When you dream about clothes, pay attention to the item of clothing you are dreaming about. Also, pay attention to the condition of the clothes. If your clothes are torn or dirty in the dream, it means you will be disappointed by something.

New clothes suggest a change in your social status. If you don't have on any clothes, you are exposed and vulnerable to whatever may happen to you.

Missing a School Bus or a Class in School

Most people have dreams about missing a school bus. That simply means they missed out on something from their school days. Maybe the dreamer didn't go to his school prom or failed a required course. You might even have been thinking about what you missed in school and wish you had done better.

Similarly to missing the school bus, some dreamers have revealed that they have missed a class. When they showed up, the class had already ended.

Vehicles

Another common theme is dreaming about vehicles. The dreamer should identify if the vehicle is a car, bus, train, airplane, motorcycle, tricycle, bicycle, or wagon.

It is important to notice if you are the driver or a passenger. If you are a passenger in the back seat, then you might be controlled by others. If you are the driver, then you are in control. If the brakes fail, then you have to “put the brakes” on something you are doing or thinking about doing.

If you can't find your vehicle in the parking lot, then you are losing out on something. Try to find out what it is.

Falling

Falling is a common theme in dreams. Some people have dreamed they were in an elevator that never stopped and never reached the bottom. It just kept dropping. That type of dream means you are losing control of something that's important to you.

If you have dreamed of falling, it is an indication that you have lost your footing and you are going down fast. That type of dream suggests failure or inferiority in some areas of your life. It is a warning for the dreamer to gain control of his life before it is too late.
