Optimism

A rose!

Sokushin Jobutsu is a term in Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism.

The state of Buddhahood can be attained without discarding one’s present form as a common mortal by practicing the Buddhism of the Three Great Secret Laws.

Nichiren Daishonin states in his gosho “Reply to the Wife of Lord Ota” (“Ota dono nyobo-gohenji“):

Tiantai and other great teachers conclude that attaining Buddhahood in one’s present form is only possible through the Lotus Sutra. My disciples should never forget this.

(Gosho, p. 1471)

The pre-Lotus Sutra teachings, (there are over 80,000 Sutras!) expounded that one must practice over a period of countless kalpas (a nearly incalcuable length of time!) in order to attain Buddhahood. However, the Lotus Sutra, which teaches the principle of Ichinen Sanzen (three thousand realms in a single life-moment), is the supreme teaching. It enables all people in each of the ten worlds (worlds meaning conditions of momentary existence) to attain Buddhahood through the power of the Law without changing their present form.

So what does this mean for happiness?

Why is optimism a force multiplier to lasting happiness?

It all narrows down to “sound or vibration.”

Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist practioners, both lay members and Priests, chant. They chant in the morning and in the evening both a chapter and a half of the Lotus Sutra and the Daimoku. The “Daimoku” is Nam Myoho Renge Kyo which is generally translated as devotion to the Mystic Law of Cause and Effect through Sound or Vibration.

So, why is sound or vibration at the core of optimism and lasting happiness. Well, you could read my new book “An Absolute Guide to Lasting Happiness” by John Charles Harman, (which by the way has no references to religion or Buddhism, only scientific facts!) or you could trust the fact that I have practiced Buddhism since 1974, am an acomplished kinesiologist and muscian or you could do just ask yourself if you feel happier playing your favorite music no matter what your mood is!

This is me! I am a member of Disney Golf! The other picture is my step daughter Brenda. She is a nurse in Tacoma, Wa.

Sound or Vibration is life. Everything we see, know, and invent vibrates. Both animate and inaminate objects vibrate. Vibration is our universe, weather our universe is ever expanding or cyclic!

Traits We See In Very Optimistic People

1. They fight for what they want.

Striving to achieve a goal will make anyone feel alive. In contrast, those who haven’t fulfilled goals often necome bitter. If you set goals and fight for them you are happier in general.

2. Realism - Optimists are realists. They don’t set impossible goals beyond their capabilities. It’s not true that if you set your mind to it, you can achieve absolutely anything. If your goal is unreachable it often ends in frustration. It is one thing is to set high goals, setting impossible goals is a different story.

3. Optimists see failure as opportunity. Where others see failure, they see learning opportunities To an optimist, nothing is a “failure”. Optimists know that mistakes, errors, impossible challenges and unachieved goals exist. But they wouldn’t call any of these outright failures. That’s exactly what makes them optimists. The ability to look for the positive, to see the bright side of life.

4. They are honest with themselves. Being honest with yourself means setting aside justifications and excuses. This attitude requires courage because it means that you won’t try to hide from the truth. It means standing face to face with life and being sincere with yourself. Blaming others for your mistakes or failures leads to bitterness.

5. They never compare themselves with others. Comparing yourself with others distorts your thoughts and focus. Subjectivly it is impossible to compare who is better or worse. A criminal may have a better heart than a President but a worse ability to achieve his or her goals. There is no measurement for this.

6. Self-motivated: one of the traits of optimistic people. This means pushing yourself to keep moving forward for a particular purpose or goal. Optimistic people know that the strength to keep fighting comes from the inside. This derives from the fact that they don’t do things because of the approval or disapproval of others, but for their own convictions.

7. Acceptence. We treat other people similarly to how we treat ourselves. When someone accepts themselves, it’s easier to accept others. On the contrary, if someone is struggling to value himself or feel any self-love, what usually happens is that they project that internal conflict onto others. That’s when others become a target for constant criticism.

Optimism requires effort especially when we have a never ending bombardment of negative, fake and sensationalized media that has the sole purpose of manipulating iur thpughts and behaivours!

So, remember, I love you and so does Mickey Mouse! Listen to your music and tell someone you love them too!
