A time of reflection during Covid-19

The social pandemic we were not ready for

The invisible enemy

It's been a while since my last article, and it might not be a good time to start a new one in light of all this current social delirium, but I thought why not try.

We certainly didn't see it was coming, we wouldn't expect it to happen, and now there is a worldwide lockdown; thus we are in isolation, and we are probably feel paralysed as much as the sound of the word lockdown could ever let us feel. This pandemic, also known as COVID-19, has swamped more than 100 countries around the world, killed thousands and other potential new cases; over the past 5 months the news around this, insidiously unexpected pandemic, has taken the world by the storm. As a matter a fact we are in the middle of something pretty much similar to the Spanish Flu that occurred in the early 1900s. Virologist and doctors worldwide are trying their best to get to a possible vaccine and at the same time giving their transparent opinion on what is best for our society to flattened the curve: but amongst all these will we ever end up to get an explanation as to how all this abrupt outburst came along.

Despite all this tough time and social distancing, I started to focus and appreciate the simple things of my everyday life, such as handcrafting, positive self-thoughts, exercise, taking a break from the usual routine; and with a large amount of time available during our StayAtHome Period, keeping in contact with my love ones. Although it sounds obvious and corny, isn't as easy as it sounds: every now and then I found myself slacking onto an almost irritating laziness.

That is not all! We are facing moments of disruption, sadness and grief, with an increasing level of uncertainty caused in the majority by a concerning job loss around the world. The education system has also been slammed, with teachers getting lost and confused by facing the conflicted choice of whether to close or reopen the schools. Challenging times are ahead for us all, and the words 'social distancing' is creating, in my opinion, a necessary yet palpable human detachment causing a different interaction and behave in the community, almost as we were afraid of one another. Sometimes I don't feel like breathing when I am outdoor, changing my way when I see another person walking on my side. Sometimes I feel powerless. Needless to say that each one of thousand of people out there are scared, frustrated and disorientated. Furthermore, if we think of the crippling sense of emptiness and despair waiting for the hopeful contact from the National Services for the economic subsidy package in our own country.

That happened to have heard that we have to get prepared for the worst. We are all in this together, from avoiding spread the virus and for saving lives.

But what all this situation is teaching us on daily basis, what hidden meaning should we take on board? Not only this virus turned the world around profoundly unsettled our well-organised way to live. My thought that has been stored in my mind for quite a while is what if all this was a sign for each one of us from an unknown force. (religion view doesn't apply to this). We were been told to stay at home and isolate ourselves trying to focus on spending this time on things that matter. ( except all the flocking videos on Instagram and Tik Tok platforms). Maybe we were been asked to reflect on what we are doing, who are we and where our life is going. Personally, I am waking up everyday thinking about how this Virus situation will change our human interaction.
