Technology and medical advances can bring many benefits to the quality of our lives. This is a remarkable story of a mature age friend who took advice from an endocrinologist on Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and transformed his life.

This is the story of a friend who looked and behaved old until 72. He was giving up living a quality life.

My friend amazed me.

When I met him recently for a social occasion after his 73rd birthday, he looked an entirely a different guy.

He not only looked younger but also behaved like a younger person. He was more lively, energetic, and joyful. The smile on his face was brighter. Overall, I felt meeting a new person. Seeing cheerful people in my circles makes me happy.

I couldn't help and asked what the secret was behind his transformation.

As we are good friends for long, he shared his secret with me openly.

He is a retired gentleman from academia with grown-up kids and grandkids. Since the last eight years after his retirement, he gained considerable weight, and his belly was growing to his disappointment. When I met him in his 60s at work, he was a lean person with no noticeable belly.

He was very active with his children, and they had many extra-curricular activities.

He couldn't exercise due to lack of energy and excessive weight after his retirement. His body was achy. He lost interest in many things in life, including reading books and social events.

When he had his annual medical checkup, his physician noticed very low testosterone in his blood tests. The physician referred him to an endocrinologist.

After a few months, he was called to an appointment with his specialist doctor, endocrinologist, an expert on hormones. The specialist examined his major hormones and also noticed a deficiency in other related hormones for his gender.

He understood from endocrinologist's diagnosis that his body was not creating sufficient male hormone, testosterone; instead, his DHEA was converted to estrogen. Therefore, due to estrogen effects, he gained extra weight, and his belly grew gradually.

Endocrinologist decided to apply hormone replacement therapy. As he was over 70 years old, and his testosterone was under minimum acceptable level, he was eligible for this therapy. The treatment was specifically called testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).

He had mentioned that the initial part of the therapy was a bit painful. It was an injection for a few weeks to boost his testosterone level. He experienced immediate positive results. He noticed remarkable changes in his physical abilities, mental sharpness, and emotional balance.

After a few months when his hormone levels normalized, his specialist changed the therapy method to gels. He applied the medication under his arms once a day. This application kept his testosterone levels at optimal for his age.

He experienced many benefits within six months. He started losing fat and keeping his lean muscles. His mental capabilities dramatically improved. For example, his memory improved, and attention span increased. He started reading books again. His relationship with his wife improved.

He told me that he felt like a teenager. It was a new life for him. He started an exercise program and sustained it. Within a year, he looked at least 30 years younger than he was.

He repeated his blood tests and noticed that his hormones normalized. All other blood markers were showing normal too. Even though he heard about testosterone replacement therapy's side effects, he, fortunately, did not experience any of those side effects.

He told me with a smile on his face: The only thing, I cannot have children anymore; but who cares now, after 73 years of age. I already have grandchildren.

His story touched me. His transformation inspired me. I wanted to be like him at his age.

I met many elderly friends who gave up life. They blamed their age for lack of energy.

Maybe simple blood checks can identify the root causes of their issues.

Just addressing one hormonal issue made a big difference for my friend. Possibilities look endless.

Technology and medicine made significant progress in creating bio-identical hormones.

I believe men suffering from low testosterone symptoms may consult with their physicians and see an endocrinologist for a hormonal checkup.

Who knows they may benefit from this therapy and relive their youth.

Thank you for reading my perspectives.
