Skin aging and wrinkles do not occur instantly. No one wakes up overnight with only a wrinkled forehead, the changes occur slowly, so at the first stage, they may go unnoticed.

There are a lot of factors that favor the early appearance of wrinkles (up to 25–30 years). There are internal and external factors, but they are all associated with three processes: disruption of collagen production, worsening of blood circulation, and dehydration.

External factors

Stress

Stress is one of the strongest factors that cause early wrinkles. In times of stress and unpleasant emotions, the muscles of the face are strongly tense, spasms occur in some muscles, which slows down blood circulation and, respectively, disrupts the skin's supply of oxygen and nutrients.

Insufficient sleep

Insufficient sleep triggers a series of hormonal reactions, which aggravate the condition of the skin, resulting in disrupted collagen production and blood circulation.

Insufficient sleep not only promotes the formation of wrinkles, but the contour of the face slips down and dark circles appear.

Refined alcohol and sugar

Alcohol retains water in the body but also does not prevent dehydration. Water is retained in the interstitial space, and as result cellulite appears on the body, and edema and dark circles on the face.

While sugar directly destroys collagen: I wrote a special material about it. In a nutshell, the body breaks down sugar into glucose and binds to collagen, which provides elastic, firm, silky skin. Collagen becomes stronger and, respectively, loses its properties.

Sunbathing

The sun's rays disrupt the function of fibroblasts - cells responsible for producing enough collagen in sufficient quantities. Ultraviolet rays also suppress the skin's protective barriers, and rashes can occur as a result.

Lack of physical exertion

No physical activity on the skin and muscles slows down blood circulation, including to the face. Tissues receive less oxygen and nutrients. As a result, not only wrinkles appear, but also an unhealthy skin tone.

If you sit in front of the computer all day with your back bent, you can expect the second chin to appear. If you keep your eyes on the phone, with your head bowed, then in addition to the second chin, you will also choose Venus rings (horizontal stripes on the neck).

Improper use of cosmetics

The early appearance of wrinkles is conditioned by the frequent use of cosmetics, which dehydrate the skin - harsh washing solutions, which dehydrate the skin, as well as alcohol-based products.

The creams are just as harmful, unsuitable for the season. For example, it is not recommended to use moisturizer in winter, I wrote about it here.

Internal factors

Hormonal oscillations

Collagen production is conditioned by estrogen levels. Its amount gradually decreases after 30 years and then decreases sharply after 40 years.

But even up to the age of 30, the amount of estrogen in the blood fluctuates constantly. It depends on the phase of the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or lactation, as well as other external factors that you already know about, such as stress, diet, sports, etc.

Mimic too active

In some people, emotions are reflected in the face - they squint, frown, frown, etc. The facial muscles involuntarily contract thousands of times a day, forming notches. In young people, they disappear at rest, but each year they become deeper and more pronounced, even when they are relaxed.

Active mimicry is visible in the upper third of the face - on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.

Genetic predisposition to premature skin aging

If you want to know how your face will change over the years, look at your parents. In 90% of them, you will see the projection of your face, but do not despair - this is the case when you can fight genetics (at least minimize external factors).

One thing is clear, we need good sleep, sports, we need to reduce sugar and alcohol consumption, protect our skin from the sun, and more. Yes, the advice is the same. It is much easier to prevent wrinkles than to fight them. We recommend that you do this as early as possible - at least at the age of 20.
