Winter is here and I am spending my share time taking care of my health and wellbeing with lovely holistic health rituals and recipes to build my health and immune system. With colds, flu and other wintery bugs on the loose many people are reaching for more holistic ways to take care of themselves. Using natural remedies to aid them in their quest to be healthier and illness free during these cold months.

So today I am sharing three holistic health recipes that will aid and help you through this cold and dark season.

Golden Milk

Great to drink before bed on a cold winters night. This lovely concoction has been used for many years to help build immunity, fights colds, support digestion and reduce inflammation and joint pain. As well as being anti-viral, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal.

You will need:

1x glass Oat milk (or other milk that you prefer)

1x tsp Turmeric powder

1x tsp Ginger powder

1x tsp Cinnamon powder

1x tsp Coconut solid oil

Method:

1: Add all ingredients to pan and mix well.

2: Turn on a medium heat and warm through to desired temperature.

3: Using a gauze to catch any left over powdery parts pour back into chosen mug and enjoy.

Eucalyptus Rub – For Coughs and Colds

Winter is always a time spent running from colds and flu. Hoping every moment that it doesn’t catch up with you. Viruses like these are difficult to treat as things such as antibiotics don’t often help unless you have an infection. However, Eucalyptus has been used for centuries to break down and loosen mucus allowing for easier breathing and less coughing. Plus it is super simple and easy to make from your home.

You will need:

Eucalyptus Oil

Jojoba oil (or other carrier oil)

Method:

1: Mix 10-12 drops Eucalyptus oil in one ounce of Jojoba oil.

2: Shake/ Mix well.

3: Apply a few drops to chest and back.

Sleep Aid Pillow Spray (Can be used all year round)

Sleep is far more important to our health than people realise. Especially at this time of year when your body is some dong more energy trying to fight viruses and infections within the body. It is vital that our bodies get the rest they need to do their jobs properly. However, sleep with everything else that we need to do can often get ditched and then we struggle to sleep well. This recipe is soothing and calming. Spray it and breathe it in deeply to relax and send you off on into a deep slumber.

You will need:

Lavender Oil

Frankincense Oil (Optional)

Rosewater

Method:

1: Mix 15-20 drops of Lavender with 1 cup of rosewater. (If you want to add Frankincense then add 10 drops of both)

2: Shake/ Mix well.

3: Spray on pillow before bed.

(Different oil brands may produce slightly different blends. In most cases it is trial and error. If the above is too strong add more rosewater, if it isn’t strong enough add more essential oils. Everyone is different)

Oregano Tea

Fighting for viruses can be hard on the body. Sometimes we don’t have the time to make golden milk. Therefore supporting our immune systems with antivirals can support our bodies in the fight. Oregano is one of those antiviral herbs that will help and support you. Just one cup and day can help you.

You will need:

1x tsp dried Oregano

Loose tea infuser

Hot water

Method:

1: Add 1tsp Oregano to your tea infuser

2: Boil a kettle or heat water on stove.

3: Add water to cup with infuser and leave for 10 minutes

4: Enjoy the Oregano tea.

Supporting your health during all seasons will help you stay fit and healthy. However, Winter can be a harsh time. Therefore spending a little extra time on self care can be very beneficial during the colder season.
