As in everything else in life,we have trends for diets as well.

Breathless headlines boost the latest trend as the best road to health and happiness before moving to the next gimmick.People can feel confused as to which diet works best for them.I always had an interest for nutrition and after studying many books and already knowing how our body works(as a physician),I wanted to keep only what has been proved to work scientifically and for the long term.

I combined old data with the latest results in nutrition and medicine to find out for myself the best nutrition plan for cognition and overall health. This knowledge has not come easily but it was worth the effort. In nutrition it is important to know what to eat ,how much you should eat and when to eat.

But what if I am already late?

Well,it is better to start late than never.Your brain and body will thank you for it.Not only you can prevent future ilness but you will obtain better energy levels and mental focus.Nutrition can have incredible power in your life. There has been evedence of people reversing diabetes, depression and even some forms of cancer with the power of nutrition.

I will not deny the power and efficiency of specific drugs for cancer or other serious diseases but if you combine them with the proper dietary changes you give yourself the most chances to overcome serious disease and live long and healthy.

Should I totally abstain from eating sugar and processed-fried food?

When it comes to nutrition the rule is that what you avoid is more important of what you eat.I mean that you can have your ice cream or burger here and there but make sure not to avoid altogether fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods. The more often you eat those healthy foods the better it will be for your overall health.

Try to eat on a daily basis vegetables, nuts, olive oil, legumes and two or three times a week fish and lean red meat from reliable providers.By doing so you will feel less depressed and stressed.Your social skills will improve and you will feel happier. There has been scientific data to prove all of the above.

It is entirely up to you to make the change

The choices you make will impact your body and brain health.Go for colored fruits and especially berries that are low in sugar.Use only olive oil(extra virgin)and eat fish and lean meat from reliable providers.Delight avocados, macadamias and take some krill oil as a supplement.

Avoid food that has been fried in oils. This kind of food is toxic and it will impair the functioning of your brain.Heated oils contain a huge amount of acrylamide-a known human carcinogen. That kind of highly processed is also associated with dementia and Alzheimer.

Is vegan cheese ok to consume?

By Sander Dalhuisen on Unsplash

No,it is not!Vegan cheese and prepackaged foods like cookies and margarine have lots of trans fats. The producers care only about their profits and happily add those trans fats because they extent the life of their products and give them a pleasant texture and taste.Trans fat consumption has been associated with brain shrinkage and dementia.

What about sugar?

I am sorry to tell you that although I like sugar ,sugar is very harmful for your brain and body.Sugar will cause the structural proteins of your body to become glycated. Glycation and the formation of AGE or advanced glycation end products can damage your brain and body enormously. You should try to cut down not only on sugar but carbohydrates generally. If you love sugar go for brown sugar or stevia.I don't like sweeteners for many reasons but this article should remain short.
