The year of the Dragon has begun, which makes 2024 the year of opportunity and for aspirations that will burn hot enough to ignite the stars. Specifically, this is the year of the Wood Dragon, which brings growth and transformation, creativity, and success. A year that reflects everything that Vocal embodies. The Wood Dragon also brings with it courage. Courage to face challenges, the uncertainty that pursuing publication brings for a first-time author, and courage to meet any obstacles to success with poise and aplomb. #200 Future Plans
I did not plan on returning to Vocal this year (2024). I stopped regularly posting for various reasons in 2023, among them being mental health complications and frustration with my progress on the platform. I felt jaded. No matter what I did, I could not generate new views. I only had a handful of followers and expected to garner at least passive views, but that has yet to happen. My followers are likely friends and family members who have accepted the request because they know and love me rather than want to read my work.

My Past Year on Vocal and a New Plan
From the end of 2022 through 2023, I didn't write much. I lost my mom in February of 2023 after a battle with brain cancer. From September 2022 until she passed, my sister and I were her caregivers. That didn't leave much time for writing, though I did write a couple of pieces for my mother. After her death, I struggled with not having a purpose, as I no longer had anyone to care for. I fell into a deep, long-lasting depression. My auntie, who was a rock in our family, passed in December, a few days before Christmas. Grief has no specific time or place and pops up now and then, but going into this year, I am choosing not to sit in my sadness from now on. I believe while our emotions can't be chosen, how much room we give our emotions is what we can control. So, while last year was a bust, I intend to make up for it this year. This challenge piece is the road map for my next year on Vocal.
