🛑 TRUMP PULLS THE PLUG ON “PROJECT FREEDOM”: The U.S. Just Paused Its Strait of Hormuz Rescue Mission — And It Could Mean a Peace Deal Is Hours Away
Trump launched it on Sunday with all the dramatic fanfare of a wartime president: “Project Freedom,” a bold U.S. military operation to physically escort commercial ships through the Iranian-blockaded Strait of Hormuz, the critical chokepoint through which one-fifth of the world’s daily oil supply once freely flowed. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stood at the White House podium and declared the mission an urgent humanitarian duty. Nearly 23,000 sailors from 87 countries, he said, had been “left for dead” by Iran’s blockade of the strait since the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran began in February. “They’re sitting ducks,” he said. “They’re isolated, they’re starving, they’re vulnerable, and at least 10 sailors have already died.”

Iran's Foreign Minister Just Flew to Beijing. The Meeting With China Is the Most Important Diplomatic Encounter Before Trump's Summit — and Here Is Why It Changes Everything.
On Wednesday morning, May 6, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi landed in Beijing for a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi — his first visit to China since the U.S.-Israel war on Iran began on February 28, triggering the most severe global oil supply crisis in history. The meeting, announced by China's official Xinhua news agency and confirmed by Iran's foreign ministry, came at a moment of maximum diplomatic intensity: one week before President Trump is scheduled to arrive in Beijing for a summit with President Xi Jinping on May 14-15, and just hours after Trump paused his Project Freedom military operation in the Strait of Hormuz to create space for a potential deal.

Russia's Biggest Military Parade in 81 Years Will Have No Tanks, No Missiles — and No Military Equipment at All. Ukraine's Drones Did This.
Every year since the early 2000s, Russia's Victory Day parade on May 9 has been among the most choreographed displays of military power on earth. Columns of T-90 and T-72 tanks roll across Red Square's cobblestones. Intercontinental ballistic missile launchers — Yars ICBMs capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads — lumber through the gates of the Kremlin. S-400 air defence systems and Iskander ballistic missile complexes trundle past the reviewing stand where Vladimir Putin watches in immaculate military dress. Fighter jets and strategic bombers carve formation passes overhead. The world watches. The message is unmistakable: Russia is powerful, Russia is armed, Russia cannot be threatened.

Russia Killed 22 Ukrainians — Then Offered a Ceasefire. Zelensky Called It "Utter Cynicism." He Is Right.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, hours before a Ukrainian-proposed ceasefire was due to take effect, and three days before Russia's own announced "Victory Day" ceasefire was set to begin, Russian forces launched one of the most devastating single-day attacks in weeks. Glide bombs smashed into the eastern city of Kramatorsk, the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, and the northern city of Chernihiv. Missiles and drones struck energy infrastructure in Poltava and Kharkiv. When emergency workers arrived at the burning Naftogaz gas production facility in Poltava, Russian forces executed a deliberate "double-tap" strike — a second missile fired directly at rescue teams working the first impact site. Two rescuers were killed. Twenty-three more were wounded. In total, Tuesday's attacks killed at least 22 people and wounded more than 80 across Ukraine.
