Find The Good In Life

Being Intentional Based On Our Psychology

Our Brains are fascinating things.

Truly, one of Nature's greatest Creations in my opinion.

When we look at History, our Brains have been behind some of the most Amazing things...

As well as some of the most Horrific.

It is this that I want to hone in on today.

I do not want to Focus on what Horrific things exist, but rather to talk about how our Brains work "around" that which is Horrific.

If you want to see the Horror, go to your News Outlet of choice.

No, see what's Important to understand is how our Brain Developed over thousands of years.

The Brain has a mechanism that will push us to stay alive.

In its pursuit of Survival, it had to be able to pinpoint what was and wasn't Dangerous to us.

If something was deemed Dangerous, we needed to Focus and Act on it quickly.

If we didn't... we didn't Survive.

However, we find ourselves in a world VERY different from what our Brains were originally designed for.

Danger is not nearly as present in our Lives as it used to be in History.

This doesn't mean everywhere is "perfectly" safe, but we are in significantly Safer times today than at any other point in History.

However, our Brains are still ALWAYS on the lookout for Danger.

Now, that is not an Inherently Bad thing, but there is another function of our Brains that can turn it into something awful.

See, our Brains work like a Google Search.

Whatever you tell it to look for, it will find.

It may even add contexts to past events and even current situations that are not justified, to fit the Search you tell it to look for.

So, what are you telling your Brain to Find?

If you decide to look at the News, you are actively telling your Brain to look for the WORST aspects of Life because that is 95%+ what the News Focuses on.

If you do Online Searches for all the Bad things in the world, you are adding to this.

When we put a LOT of Horrible things in our Awareness, we gain a Filter in our Brain that makes EVERYTHING look Horrible around us.

If you watch Crime on the News, and Crime shows, and look up information about Crimes Online, and read Crime Novels, you gain a filter that makes EVERYTHING look like a potential Crime.

You will walk through life, looking at EVERY person that passes you by, and your Brain will try to justify how that person is about to commit a crime.

Yes, EVEN the 1000-year-old lady that is scooting past you slower than a snail, or the baby in that was born literally 5 minutes ago.

They obviously must be the Culprits of some undetermined Crime, right?

My point is that your view of the world will become COMPLETELY skewed from Reality.

I'm not saying that bad things don't happen, but all the bad things combined make up... maybe... 0.1% of everything that happens in Life.

What about the other 99.9% of the time?

Well, most of it tends to be fine.

Some of it may even be Good!

Can you imagine?

Good things in Life?

Well, in all likelihood there are FAR more Good things happening in the World around you than there are Bad things.

The key to finding these things is to use our Brains how they are Designed.

You must be Intentional in looking for the Good in Life.

When you feed your Brain the question, "What is Good?", it will start to look for it!

Just as above where the Brain added a Filter, it will do that but for the Good in Life.

It can even make you rethink all the things that happened in your Past, and can turn even the worst parts of your Past into a Positive Experience!

This can even be done in the WORST conditions where TRULY horrific things are occurring regularly!

This is what helped Viktor Frankl survive being a prisoner in a concentration camp during WWII.

See, this is the Power that our Brains have.

We can turn our Perception of Reality into whatever we want it to be!

Do we want our Reality to be Bad?

Then tell your Brain to look for the Bad things and you will find all of them, and create more that don't exist.

Do we want our Reality to be Good?

Then tell your Brain to look for the Good things and you will find all of them, and you may end up finding more than you Realize.

The strangest thing about it?

Those Good things have always been there!

They were just waiting for you to Intentionally Focus on them.

I'm not sure if you know Kayleigh Fraser here on Vocal but this is in her bio on her Vocal profile: “When life gives you lemons, Know you are asking for them. If you want oranges, focus on oranges” Reading this piece reminded me of this quote she had included in her bio. Anyway, I loveeeeee true crime. I listen to true crime podcasts. I love movies, shows, stories, etc, that has murder, violence, crime, gore and all the bad things. So like you said, I don't trust anyone hahahahaha. Like I always feel they're about to commit a crime 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
