A Powerful Question To Quickly Improve Your Leadership And Life

Overcoming Barriers To Change

We have just wrapped up the first week of the Year.

At this point, many people have made HUGE claims about how their lives will change this year (2024).

The Reality is that nearly 25% of people have already given up, just in the first week!

Nearly half of people will follow by the end of the month.

Why is this?

Why do so many people Fail at making Change in their Lives?

Well, whether you are someone attempting to stick to their Resolution, or a Leader working on Creating Real Change in the Office, often the answer is the same.

We Fail to ask an Essential Question.

We all understand "What" we want to Change.

Improved Fitness.

Improved Health.

Improved Sales and Revenue.

Improved Marketing.

Or in some cases, some people are looking to Eliminate something.

However, we don't really think through the "How" of it, at least we don't think through it enough.

We tend to think of large Changes when we think of "What".

Let's work out 10 days a week!

Let's lose 5,000 lbs. and overcome all our Sicknesses!

Let's Improve Sales 5,000%!

Let's Increase Impressions by 500,000%!

I use ridiculous numbers to prove a point.

Those are all interesting "What's", but "How" do you actually plan to get to them?

Most plans are VERY hazy.

If they exist at all!

We as humans also tend to think Quickly without thinking through how likely we will be to commit.

For instance - you want to work out 5 days a week.

Cool!

What happens when you get sick?

What happens when you have to work late for a week to complete an essential project at work?

What happens when your significant other wants to go on a date?

What happens when your children ask you where you've been all day?

What happens when traffic or the weather is horrible and you don't want to go to the gym?

All of these things, and more, tend to add up VERY quickly, and humans "hate" losing for long periods.

Most people would rather "Win" at Mediocrity than sustain "Losing" at something Meaningful.

That's why people have no problem Binging multiple seasons of a TV show in a week but struggle to get themselves to regularly go to a Gym.

We could also look at the Business perspective.

You want to 10x your Sales.

Awesome.

What happens when your everyone on your Team gets a Solid "No" on their first 10 calls?

Are you looking for these Sales through 1 GIGANTIC sale?

Or would it be better to get 100 tiny sales with the hope of upselling?

How long between calls to a Potential Customer?

How long between calls for a potential upsell?

Do we wait on Marketing Efforts, or see what we do on our own?

How about when the Team has no Energy because they have been Struggling with a Project for a Week or two?

Do you as a Leader continue to push them beyond their breaking point?

Again, consistent "Losing", even if it is just "Perceived" Losing, is hard for Employees to maintain.

But we can overcome these challenges by asking one question as often as we can.

How can I make this Easier?

So you want to add more Fitness into your Life - How can you make this easier?

I know for me I have a 30 lb. Kettlebell next to me where I write.

I have a Pull-Up bar right outside so I can work toward my Power-Up/Muscle-Up Goal this Year.

I can drop down anywhere and do a Pushup, a Squat, or a Burpee without any equipment.

All of these options are EASY!

I don't even need to "think" about them, I see or think about them and I just "do" it.

Now, if I go to a gym, even better!

But at least I have "something" I can do every day!

Want to Improve Sales?

Make a "Win" a minimum amount of Calls/Messages per Day.

Pick 1 Focus for everyone.

Make it so that "Something" can be done Consistently, Every Day, that Leads toward the Goal.

If you are worried there could be something, ANYTHING, that could get in the way, then ask again, "How do I make it Easier?"

You then can keep making it Easier and Easier until there is nearly a 0% chance that it won't get done!

(PS - It'll never be "Fully" 0%, there could be some freak Tornado, Earthquake, Tsunami, Flood, and Wildfire that happens one day, all at once, which brings an Alien Invasion, the Apocalypse, and causes Mass Amnesia that you'll never be able to account for, so do this "within reason")

The Easier things are to accomplish, the more likely everything stays on track toward the Big Goals we have in Life.

The more Consistent we are, the easier it is to Grow.

The more we Grow, the faster we tend to move toward our Goals.

How can you make it Easier?

Gosh even reading this made me feel so stressed, lol! That's why I don't set any goals. To me, goals = stress. Like why would I wanna do that to myself. And it'll be even worse of something comes up like you said and I couldn't do what I wanna do. So I just go with the flow hahaha. "Aim low and avoid disappointment" said by Zack Martin in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is my motto in life, lol!

These are great questions to keep in mind and have a mental check on. I'm now sick, but still slugging through my reports and preps for the semester that starts next week. The goal for today is to finish one syllabus. Tomorrow - two more. One goal at a time.
