A Disgrace in Society's Eyes

A Better Understanding

By Angela cipollonePublished 7 years ago 4 min read

Everyone eventually or maybe never will experience this life that I live Monday-Thursday. I've always told myself that I would never catch myself in such a place, a place where people live double lives, a place where some go to escape their households. Working inside and just outside the second door to this place has me seeing people at their worst and at their best.

Constantly seeing them go in and out to simply catch a breath from everything going on inside. There are some who come out sweating and just need some cool air and smoke while others come out and go straight to the ATM and pull out hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Some to the point where the machine will make them call their bank to verify it's them. In some cases some people can't even get out without being drunk.

Some say this life is chaotic, others say it's as simple as it is. But working here has changed my perspective on everything. It's a way to make money and quick with out being disrespected. Some of the people here get judged for the things that they do while most just praise them. The people who work here have to be strong both mentally and physically. The women here have to have both those traits plus beauty before they can even think about working here.

It's not a thing against women and they aren't being "judgey." But the ones who succeed here have to have the mentality and capability to understand and read a person within the first couple minutes of sitting and talking to a customer. Some of the workers that have been in this industry can read a man and if they are worth their time by simply looking at the size of his pocket. The smart girls will be the ones that sit with a client, have them buy drinks and get the money out of them later on. They do this so they don't have to fight for money with any of the other girls. Those smarter workers are usually the ones who have something to go home to. The ones who stay stingy are usually the ones that are younger and money hungry. The less wise don't end up succeeding typically, they are the workers who get trapped in this building. The more wise are the ones who go on and make something out of all of the money they receive.

Have you figured it out yet? Where I work?

In a place like this there are various of job tasks; some are simple while others are a little bit more intricate. There's security which is self-explanatory: they pat people down be sure that nothing dangerous enters. Then there's me, the door girl, the one who takes the customers money to enter and then some. Once you walk in, you see the bar, right where usually one of the managers stands assuming that if they are needed at the bar they are there. Then there are the bartenders, typically women, and then there is the bar back. These are the people who make all of the delicious but dangerous drinks. The bar back is simply there to back up the bar and make sure they don't run out of anything. As we go further into the club we find the stage with seating in front and tables for some to sit, DJ booth and men's bathroom straight ahead. The locker room, bathroom and hookah station to the left. In the locker room we have a house mom; she is there for any of the workers that need anything done as in makeup and hair or costume adjustments. The hookah station is where customer can approach a girl and she will have a hookah prepared for them within minutes so the customer can enjoy a head high and getting delicious flavors in there mouth in the meantime.

No I don't work in a tricked up theater and nor do I work in a comedy lounge.

The answer is a strip club. Some think, well it's just money flying everywhere. Correction, much goes on behind the scenes. These girls get dressed and take time out from their night to entertain and make money. Those of you that come into the club and only buy one drink and just watching is offending the girls. Some are literal professionals and others are some that went got their license and just need a quick buck. I would never walk into one of these places due to me not being able to afford the price it takes for these beautiful women to dance for me.

Now thinking about it, I wouldn't come here not necessarily because I'm more on the conservative side but because of the fact that there is a lady in front of me willing to do a service for me and others for money in exchange. So in the future when you go into a strip club, bring more than just $100 just because there is much more than just drunk girls who don't respect themselves. They are women who need a jumpstart in their lives with some money and open their own businesses, or even just simply take care of their families.
