The other day had been shattering, so when night time came around, I was hoping for a really good night's sleep
It didn't go as planned!
I enjoyed a warm shower, then I made us both a warm drink before attempting to crawl into my freshly made bed. I had only been in bed a minute before I noticed it!
A spider, just like the one in the picture had craftily crawled onto my bed, and was sitting right beside me!
I never kill spiders, even though I don't really like them; though having one cheekily sitting beside me on my bed really freaked me out.
I franticly called for my husband, who thought I was in danger of being attacked by a mad man, but he could not see the spider because the cheeky not so little thing had already crawled underneath the base of the bed before he could see it.
"There isn't anything there!" he told me.
I thought I was going crazy.
My heart was literally beating out of my chest.
"Go to sleep, its gone now!"
My husband worked as a mental health nurse for 31 years, so he was skilled in encouraging people to self-soothe, but no, I wasn't having any of it.
Not, until I had at least strip searched the bed three times, and checked underneath it at least four more times!
Anyway, it was getting late, and I was shattered. So, after the fourth check I managed to somehow reassure myself that the spider was not on the bed, and that it must have disappeared in the cracks in the skirting boards.
I finally managed to reassure myself enough to get some sleep, but only after I had changed all of the sheets, and there was no spider!
I woke up the next morning, feeling happy and reassured. I was so sure that spider had gone, and I had checked a few times, so I knew there was no sign of a spider in my room, or on my bed.
I enjoyed my usual cup of coffee, and set about making the bed which was part of my morning routine, even if I did change them the night before. After stripping the bed and checking the mattress several times, I finally reassured myself that the spider had left the room.
I decided to make a second cup, as a first cup of coffee hardly ever settled me in the mornings. I always took my morning drink sitting on my bed as it calmed me down, and got me ready for my day.
I still checked the sheet before sitting down, anyway, just to double check that the blasted spider had not crawled back onto my bed. I had been sitting there for only five minutes, when the telephone rang. The telephone was kept on top of the shelf on my headboard for emergencies, since I was also a carer.
When I turned around to pick it up, I could not believe what I saw, and I dropped the telephone, freezing in shock.
I thought I was hallucinating, so I shut my eyes three times then quickly opened them again.
The creepy crawly was still in my eyes.
"No, I'm still dreaming!" I told myself.
The sheets had flowers on them, so I changed them again thinking they might be impacting me psychologically. I attempted to lift the sheet, and screamed
When I found
that exact same spider doing its happy dance on the sheet, right at the side where I had just woken up!
And;
I knew it was not on those freshly changed sheets the other night!
It must have hidden itself, and crawled back onto the bed this morning whilst I was changing the sheets.
I was beyond horrified!
Now, I freak out every night before bed, and I check the sheets every time I get up for the toilet!
Spiders are evil, even though I'd never kill one!
