FOUR IN ONE

OVERVIEW

Jase is like any other High School kid, trying to maneuver his family, his peers, his fears and life. Oh, Except for that thing where he has 3 other distinct personalities that advise him for better or worse. He is somewhat of a nerd, but he's so damn cute that the cool kids keep him on the list. Although he's not quite sure what his path in life is yet, his mom, Karen, is certain that she does. Mama Karen inwardly feels she missed her chance to be a "Superstar," and therefore tries to live vicariously through him. Jase rejects wanting to be pushed into that life, but hasn't totally dismissed it. Karen doesn't like to take "No" for an answer, so sometimes Jase will appease his mother and go to an audition or take some headshots or "Whatever."

CHARACTERS

JASE PETTIS, is a 16-year-old White teen growing up in Los Angeles, California. Although he has the looks of a future Hollywood star, he hides that behind his glasses in the form of a "Clark Kent." His goals for the future are undecided, but he's pretty sure he doesn't want the lights, camera and action. He inwardly identifies as four distinct and separate personalities, Personality #1 being himself. All four help him maneuver through life. The other three personalities appear to him separately and jointly as needed to advise him on the hilarious, silly, quirky situations he can't seem to avoid. Only Jase can see or hear his "advisors."

Personality #2 is a 40-year-old Black woman named RETHA, who does not hold back with Jase or any of the other personalities, when asked and when not asked. She's the Mama of the group. She is streetwise and outspoken. If you want to know the real, "Retha got you." Jase has to try to keep P#2 in check, when in actuality, she's hard to check. Retha's favorite saying is, "I'll Cut A Bitch!"

Personality #3 is and older Asian man. He looks to be about 50-years of age but is rumored to be hundreds of years old. Remember this is all happening in Jase's mind, so the rumors come from the same place as everything else with these personalities. MR. LEE is the name of P3. He is wise beyond his years and the cooler head when hard decisions have to be made. He sometimes is able to stop Jase from making snap decisions, but the end of the day as a last resort, after being around Retha for so long, Mr. Lee will "cut a bitch," too.

Personality #4 is BREE, she is about 8 years old. A cute, intelligent and sassy little White girl, who according to her, knows EVERYTHING. Wears her hair in two braids. She has a quick wit and a GLARE. She is very computer savvy. She might be the closest example of a human AI as you can get. She helps Jase in times where high-functioning brain usage is needed.

Jase's mother, KAREN PETTIS, would most likely not be voted "Mother of the Year" for many reason. She is exactly as her name suggests, "A Karen." She is the wannabe Momanger of Jase. Her style is extravagant. She rarely hears what Jase or his father has to say. She spends a lot of time in other people's business. And let's just say that her opinion and actions are not necessarily based on fact.

Jase's father, DAN PETTIS, is the somewhat clueless dad who sometimes steps in when his wife is being too much of a "Karen." Most times he is working, but when at home, spends most of his time in the man-shed out back. Dan pretends to not be aware of most things but is more aware than the wife knows. Dan, in his words, is "just here if you need him."

ZEUS (real name Jesus Martinez), 16, best friend. Jase's Best buddy who happens to be of Latin American descent. Zeus is an equally good-looking kid. The two of them together are like 2/5th's of a boy band. Zeus is more confident and worldly than Jase and tries to keep him up on what's going on with people their age.

I INT. JASE'S BEDROOM - EVENING

JASE IS SEATED ON HIS BED WITH A CONFUSED LOOK ON HIS FACE. HE LOOKS AROUND HIS ROOM WHERE RETHA IS SEATED AT HIS DESK, BREE IS PANDERING THROUGH HIS DRESSER DRAWERS AND MR. LEE IS PACING BACK AND FORTH. RETHA STANDS UP AND LOOKS AT JASE AS SHE SPEAKS.

RETHA YOU SHOULDA CUT DA...

JASE (CUTTING RETHA OFF) . Whoa...Whoa...Retha. The guy only tripped me.

RETHA Well, I'm just sayin' you don't want people to think they can lay hands!

MR. LEE Or foot.

Mr. Lee laughs at his own joke as the others just roll their eyes at him

BREE (THROWING A BALL IN THE AIR, SPEAKING IN A SCARY VOICE) I say we just have a nice calm conversation with him .

MR. LEE Bree...remember I told you I'd tell you when your Serial Killer vibe was showing.

THERE'S A KNOCK AT THE DOOR. MR. LEE, RETHA AND BREE SCRAMBLE. AS THE DOOR OPENS, A SHOT AROUND THE ROOM SHOWS THAT THEY ARE ALL GONE EXCEPT JASE. KAREN ENTERS JASES'S ROOM WITH VERY HIGH SPIRITS OR POSSIBLY A LITTLE DRUNK.

KAREN (VERY LOUDLY AS SHE KISSES JASE ALL OVER HIS FACE) How's...my...baby...doing?

JASE (TRYING TO DODGE THE BARAGE OF KISSES) Sup.

KAREN Sup? I'm your Mama!

JASE (SARCASTICALLY) Hello Mother.

KAREN That's better. Now you know Mama is on her way to Bravocon to be discovered this week, I'll be a housewife before you know it.

JASE (UNDER HIS BREATH) What franchise? El Segundo?

KAREN Don't think I didn't hear that smarty pants, but Mama gotta catch her plane right now...

JASE SMILES AND GIVES HIS MOTHER A HUG

KAREN (RAMBLING) You and Daddy are gonna have to take care of yourselves for a few days... Check the dogs... Don't forget about the gecko... Your daddy's mom may come by to see you since I won't be here. (UNDER HER BREATH) Bitch!

JASE That's my Memaw.

KAREN Yeah, I know. That's my hall pass murder.

JASE (GETS UP AND KISSES HIS MOTHER ON THE CHEEK) Ok, MOM. I don't want you to miss your plane. They're waiting to discover you at Bravocon.

KAREN Oh yes, let me go.

KAREN KISSES JASE THEN TURNS AND RUNS OUT THE DOOR

JASE (FLOPS ON HIS BED) Sending healing energy to the people there at Bravocon.
