Please read this notice before filling in your Surveillance Benefit claim. If you do not understand this notice, please stare blankly at a wall until a DoSS representative arrives to explain it to you through your extractor fan.
About our Privacy Promise
At DoSS, we take your privacy very seriously. We promise to keep it in a small, damp box and only show it to people who promise to laugh at it. Your data is protected by a state-of-the-art "Honesty System" and a very large dog named Barnaby.
1. How we use your information
We will use the information you provide to:
- Determine if you are interesting enough to watch.
- Cross-reference your biscuit purchases with your political leanings.
- Update our "Wall of Sighs" in the staff canteen.
- Accidentally leave it on a bus in a folder marked ‘TOP SECRET / BORING’.
2. Your Right to be Forgotten
Under the Social Scrutiny (Total Exposure) Act 1974, you have the right to be forgotten. However, as soon as we forget you, we will immediately begin a fresh investigation to find out who you are, as we have no record of you. This process is cyclical and is usually quite exhausting.
Do you wish to be forgotten?
[] Yes. (Please provide three forms of ID and your childhood fears so we know who to forget).
[] No. (Thank you for your cooperation, we are currently standing behind you).
3. Data Sharing
We may share your data with:
- The Department of Counter-Counter-Espionage (for their Thursday quiz).
- Your local postman (if he asks nicely).
- The "Man in the Immaculate Suit" (Section 4b).
- Selected third-party advertisers who specialise in beige knitwear.
4. Security Measures
Please answer the following security questions to ensure your data remains “secure”:
4.1 Where do you hide your spare key? __________________
(We need this to ensure no one else steals it. We will check tonight.)
4.2 If you were a password, what would you be?
- 123456
- P4ssw0rd (I am a tech-wizard)
- The name of my first pet, which was a ___________ called ___________.
4.3 Do you agree to our use of Physical Cookies?
Yes. I understand a DoSS agent will occasionally place a digestive biscuit under my pillow to track my sleep patterns.
5. Declaration
I confirm that I have no expectation of privacy, and that any “secrets” I hold are actually the property of the Crown. I understand that if I attempt to encrypt my thoughts, I may be liable for a "Mental Obstruction" fine.
Signed: ___________________________ (Use a pen filled with your own sweat or a Medium 500μ Black Rollerball)
Date: ____ / ____ / 1922 (Please use the Julian Calendar for vintage compliance and for the purposes of client irritation)
OFFICIAL USE ONLY:
Please read this section while standing in a doorway. If you are not in a doorway, the instructions contained herein are non-binding and potentially hazardous.
- Regarding Section 6:
Note A
The Department of Social Scrutiny classifies “Secrets”[REDACTED]; as any information that has not been volunteered within the first 48 hours of your birth. Failure to disclose your middle name’s origin will result in the immediate revocation of your “Privacy Status.” If you do not have a middle name, you are legally required to adopt one; we suggest “Subservient” or “Scrutinised.”
- Regarding Section 7 - The Air-Gap Vacuum:
Note B
Please be advised that the industrial hoses used for data extraction are calibrated for standard office humidity. If you live in an area of high moisture (or near a river, as many of our offices are), the vacuum may inadvertently remove small items of sentimental value, such as wedding rings, photographs of distant relatives, or your will to live. The Department accepts no liability for items sucked into the void. To reclaim items, please file form D055-VOID-BACK and pay the administration fee of £400 or one (1) pint of high-quality gravy.
- Regarding Section 8 - The No-Knock Guarantee:
Note C
The “No-Knock” guarantee applies only to the front door of your primary residence. It does not apply to windows, chimneys, cellars, or skylights. If you hear a scratching sound at 3:02 AM, this is simply the sound of your privacy being processed. Please ignore it. Humming a jaunty tune will accelerate the processing speed.
- Regarding the Mirror Requirement:
Note D
If, during the mandatory mirror-staring exercise, you notice a man in an immaculate suit standing behind you, do not turn around. Simply offer him a cup of tea (Earl Grey only). If he accepts, your privacy application has been approved. If he sighs and looks at his watch, you have been flagged for “Immediate Observation.”
- Data Retention Policy:
Note E
All data submitted to the Department of Social Scrutiny is kept for eternity, plus six months. After this time, your data will be recycled into confetti and used at the annual DoSS Summer Fete. You are cordially invited to attend, provided you pay for your own ticket and do not speak to the officials.
- This form is marked Strictly Confidential.
- To ensure its confidentiality, please destroy this form immediately after filling it out. However, if you destroy it, we will have no record of your application, and you will be arrested for "Documentary Negligence." We recommend you keep the form in a locked lead-lined box inside a larger, slightly confusing box.
Note F (Confidentiality):
DoSS remains committed to the principle that an informed public is a dangerous public, and we thank you for your continued ignorance.
If you are reading this, you are technically trespassing on your own privacy. Please leave the room and wait for further instructions.
