Microsoft has scheduled an AI event on the morning of Monday, May 20th, just before the commencement of Build 2024. In an email invitation sent to the media, Microsoft has announced that CEO Satya Nadella will discuss the company's "AI vision across hardware and software."

This event will not be livestreamed and will only be accessible to journalists who attend in person. Microsoft's special event will primarily focus on upcoming Surface hardware and the AI-related changes to Windows. While the software giant has planned a business-focused Surface event later in the week, sources familiar with Microsoft's plans have informed The Verge that the May 20th event will showcase the consumer versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6.

These consumer Surface devices will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X Elite processors and will feature dedicated NPU hardware to accelerate AI tasks in Windows 11. Additionally, Microsoft is developing a new AI Explorer feature for Windows 11, which will function as a searchable timeline on your PC. According to Windows Central, this feature will catalog all your PC activities, allowing you to search for specific moments, similar to the Timeline feature in Windows 10 that was eventually removed by Microsoft.

This event will also serve as a platform to introduce "the year of the AI PC," as described by Microsoft. Partners such as AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm are all prepared to ship processors for Microsoft's significant push in Windows AI. However, we are still awaiting information on when Windows will be fully optimized to leverage these new chips and laptops.

The May 20th event will also cover other aspects of Microsoft's AI initiatives, including Copilot. Recently, Microsoft launched its Copilot Pro subscription worldwide, priced at $20 per month, which grants users access to the latest OpenAI models in Microsoft Office apps.

Microsoft Build will commence on Tuesday, May 21st, and will run through May 22nd. During this event, Microsoft will provide updates on AI, Copilots, and more. The event will be held both in person in Seattle and online.

Microsoft has made an announcement regarding a special AI event scheduled for the morning of May 20. This event will take place a day before the Build 2024 developer conference begins. According to The Verge, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be sharing information about the company's AI vision across both hardware and software. It is worth noting that this event will not be live streamed on the internet and will be exclusive to journalists who have received invitations from Microsoft. It seems that during this event, Microsoft will provide details about the upcoming AI features that will be introduced to Windows and certain Surface devices. While the focus of the event in March will be on business-related matters, it is possible that the consumer-centric Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 will be unveiled at the special May event. These laptops are rumored to be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processors, which include dedicated neural processing units to enhance AI-powered tasks on Windows 11.

This event is unlike the typical online events as it is exclusively for journalists who can attend in person. Microsoft's main focus for this special occasion is to highlight the upcoming Surface hardware innovations and important updates to the Windows ecosystem, all centered around the transformative power of AI.

One of the highlights of the event will be the introduction of new consumer versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. These advanced devices will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X Elite processors, which include a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) hardware designed to enhance AI-related tasks within the Windows 11 environment.

Microsoft is fully committed to enhancing user experiences through AI integration and is leaving no stone unturned in this endeavor. A notable feature teased for Windows 11 is the AI Explorer, which aims to revolutionize user interaction by providing a searchable timeline of activities on PCs. Inspired by the popular Timeline feature in Windows 10, this evolution promises effortless access to past activities, ushering in a new era of productivity and convenience.

In line with Microsoft's ambitious vision, partners such as AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm are ready to release processors optimized for Windows' AI-centric approach. However, the question that remains is when Windows will be fully prepared to leverage the complete potential of these cutting-edge chips and the accompanying laptops.
