Nigerian singer Ckay put out his first studio album titled Sad Romance all the way back in September of this year. One of the tracks on the album that caused quite some conversation was the fourth track on the album, "You Cheated, I Cheated Too".

The song lyrics read:

"You cheated, I cheated too / You're twisted, I'm twisted too, yeah / You think sey you wicked, I wicked too / You dey use my heart dey catch your cruise / Make I catch my cruise / Make you catch your cruise / Make I catch my cruise / Nobody go lose

I thought you were the one / Clearly, I was wrong / Girl, you do me strong ting / I thought you were on my team / But you show me your true color / And I no like wetin I see

This period know wetin you dey do o / No go dey do my baby, my baby, my baby / Because the same girl wey you dey carry for mind / Dem dey, tah, tah, tah, tah / Slap her nyash with disrespect / Pah, pah, pah, pah / You you dey there dey do, my baby / (You dey use my heart dey catch your cruise)"

Now, during a new interview with City 105.1FM, Ckay is opening up a little more about what exactly happened for him to write this song. Here is what Ckay said about the real life story behind the song "You Cheated, I Cheated Too".

During the interview, Ckay was asked "When you write about your love stories and all of the negative things that has happened on some songs, are you talking about yourself? This "You Cheated, I Cheated Too", who cheated? Was it you or the other person?" Ckay responded:

Yes, [I'm always talking about myself]. Like the title suggests, you cheated then I cheated too. I cheated second.

"Did that happen for real?"

Yeah. Everything I sing about happened for real.

"So do you believe in revenge?"

I feel like there is what is in quote "right", the right thing to do, and there is what we just do still regardless because we are human beings, and we just feel the way we feel. I mean, I've been in relationships whereby I could have cheated and I didn't. And I ended up getting cheated on and I felt like 2-0. I was like I would have cheated na, but I didn't even cheat. But basically in that song, I cheated too.

"How did you find out you were getting cheated on?"

Ha! Omo, that question. How did I find out? Phone messages.

"So you went through the person's phone?"

Yeah. But I don't really like to go through phones. And I don't like my phone being gone through as well. Because I feel like there are times when some messages, some incriminating things might not be what they actually look like sef. Sometimes people are just catching cruise, sometimes people are just replying messages to be nice. Sometimes, it's not just what it looks like. But still, phew. Omo if you check somebody's phone whatever you see just take it like that. That is the bottom line.
