There are not many celebrities in the Nigerian entertainment industry as elusive and mysterious as Caroline Hutchings aka Caroline Ekanem aka Caroline Danjuma. So much about this woman is a mystery, even down to her age, which has a whole Wikipedia section about how confusing it is. But today, we are about to finally get some clarity on one of the mysteries of Caroline: what is up with her constantly changing names?

Speaking during a new interview with Innih Emah TV, Caroline opened up about why she answers to Caroline Ekanem, Caroline Hutchings, and Caroline Danjuma. Here is what the actress had to say.

Caroline during interview

During the interview, Caroline was asked "You came into the industry as Caroline Ekanem, at some point you changed into Caroline Danjuma, and now you're Caroline Hutchings. Why?" She responded:

CAROLINE DANJUMA: My grandmother's name is actually Ekanem. She comes from the royal family in Eket. And when I got into the industry in 2004, my first movie was with Chico Ejiro, may his soul rest in peace, "Deadly Kiss". I remember I went in for my audition, small-ish me, and he said being called Caroline Hutchings and I already look like a white girl, it would probably put me in a box. So he asked me of my background and back then, I really held my late grandmother very close to my heart. And everything I did was literally to impress her. So he said why don't you just use your grandmother's maiden name so that Nigerians will also know that you're also a Nigerian. It was more like a stage name for me. My real name is Caroline Hutchings. My father is Scottish. His name is Julian Hutchings. My mom is from Ete in Ikoro-Basi but her mother is from Ikoro-Bioku in Eket. So my mother's name is actually Patty Davis, and her father is Dr. Patrick Davis. I'm sure those who started NTA will know him, he was one of the pioneers of NTA that trained quite a lot of your superstars in NTA news broadcasting, and also was the voice of Radio Biafra back then. So Ekanem was a name I wanted to use just as a stage name, but in all my school certificates, it's Hutchings. Then when I got married, I added Danjuma to my name. I still bear Danjuma, I have three kids with my husband, he will always be my husband whether anyone likes it or not, so I can always carry that name Danjuma. I can still carry my name, Hutchings. Why I chose Hutchings was because when I came back into social media, I got tired of how they were dragging my husband's name back and forth so I said okay, you know what? I wanted to rebrand. So on social media I am Caroline Hutchings as a brand but my real life, I'm actually Danjuma. Caroline Danjuma.
