What a strange and unusual time we all find ourselves in.

I wonder how you are coping with this unprecedented time.

Have you resorted to panic buying, maybe hoarding toilet rolls or just berating those that have? Are you self-isolating? Or going about life as usual?

The speed that this previously unheard of virus has spread around the globe has been staggering. The only thing that has moved quicker has been the FEAR. The fear has driven Covid 19 into everyone’s consciousness, into everyone’s lives. Social media has ensured it is at the forefront of our thinking all the time from the moment we get up, to the moment we finally sleep. We fear for ourselves, our love ones, our friends, our communities, our countries and our human race as a whole. Our financial stability has come under threat, alongside our health and wellbeing.

Living with so much uncertainty around us has made us all feel unsafe and to regain a sense of our safety some have resorted to panic buying. The problem is our culture, particularly in recent years, has been driven by our need for material consumption, believing it will keep us safe - the more we have, the more comfortable we are - the less vulnerable we will feel. The truth with Covid 19 is that it is impersonal. This virus doesn’t care if you are rich / poor, have the latest tech or the fast car. Our safety has been rocked, on a global scale and our vulnerability has surfaced, bringing with it FEAR.

The fear itself is nothing new, there has always been a threat of some sort in our lives, the difference with Covid 19 is the impact that social media has had on spreading the virus so dramatically, or at least spreading the FEAR of the virus. For the vast majority of people if they contract the virus the symptoms will be mild and none threatening. Unfortunately, our FEAR maybe withholding our rational thinking and we may be finding ourselves suffering as a consequence – triggering our anxiety and need to control. As we experience these all too common feelings, our normal behaviours of consumption appear and the only way we can cope is to do what we have now been programmed to do – consume - whatever we can, even if that is toilet rolls.

What the human race needs now more than ever is LOVE. If you see someone panic buying anything, they do not need your judgement. They need your LOVE. They need you to understand that this global situation has triggered their FEAR and they are doing their best, in this unprecedented time, to cope in any way that they can. Even if that means they are consuming random items on a large scale.

We are all doing our best and we have no need to judge others for their behaviours. It is well known that when we come under threat we will resort to fight, flight or freeze and it is our own individual beliefs, based on our programming that will bring our impulsive behaviours forward.

It is important now to recognise our feelings and accept them. If you are feeling fearful then acknowledge it and ask yourself why am I feeling fearful? What is really going on behind my fear? And be really truthful with yourself in response.

Be LOVING to yourself and others too, even those that you have judged to be acting irresponsibly. At any opportunity that you get - be LOVE. The more LOVE we put out into the World, the more we will receive back and the less we will be triggered by this historical event.

PEACE AND LOVE
