In the future, it is possible that Martians could exist. However, unlike the aliens depicted in science fiction movies, Martians would actually be humans who are born and raised on Mars. In this scenario, you would be one of them. One question that arises is why would your skin be orange? Additionally, would you be considered a different species? Lastly, would you ever be able to visit Earth? This is the topic we will explore in this episode of "What If."

Previous episodes have already discussed the challenges of living on Mars, but there is more to consider. In order to establish a sustainable settlement on the red planet, people would need to start having babies. The question then becomes, how many people would be needed to create a healthy population without inbreeding? Some argue that only 98 people would be sufficient, while others suggest a minimum of 10,000. Regardless of the size of the breeding population, after a few generations, significant differences between Earthlings and Martians would become apparent.

Mars is the most similar planet to Earth in our solar system, but it is not an exact replica. Its gravity, atmosphere, and magnetic field present serious challenges for human life. These challenges often lead to evolutionary changes. On Earth, babies are born with up to 120 genetic mutations. However, if they were born on Mars, these mutations would likely adapt to the Martian environment and be passed on to future generations. By the time we establish a settlement on Mars, it is likely that we will have the ability to modify our own genes, which would accelerate Martian evolution.

If you were born in the third or fourth generation of Martians, you would be significantly different from humans today. One of the main reasons for these changes would be the difference in gravity. Mars only has one-third of Earth's gravity, which means your bones would not experience the same level of force. As a result, your bones would become less dense and more prone to breakage. This would become a common issue for Martians.

Another significant change would be the atmosphere. On Earth, we are accustomed to a dense atmosphere consisting mostly of nitrogen and oxygen. However, on Mars, the atmosphere is much thinner. This would have a noticeable impact on your experience as a Martian.

In conclusion, if you were born on Mars, you would undergo significant physical changes compared to humans on Earth. These changes would be influenced by the lower gravity and thinner atmosphere on Mars. While the idea of being a Martian may seem intriguing, it is important to consider the the atmosphere on Mars consists mostly of carbon dioxide, with only trace amounts of oxygen. This would make it impossible to evolve a new respiratory system, but alternative adaptations could be developed to cope with the oxygen deficiency. For instance, individuals could have denser capillaries to efficiently transport oxygen to muscles. However, even with these modifications, survival on Mars would require living underground or in well-insulated structures due to the harsh conditions. Additionally, the weak magnetic field on Mars would expose inhabitants to higher levels of radiation. Instead of producing melanin like on Earth, the skin would generate carotenoids to protect against skin cancer. These changes would result in individuals having orange skin. Visiting Earth would pose challenges due to weaker immune systems and the higher gravity, which could be detrimental to their health. Ultimately, humans born on Mars may need to remain on the planet, leading to the potential evolution of a new type of human with unique characteristics.even outside the solar system you know what if all aliens whom we're so excited and terrified to meet are just future versions of humans well that's a story for another day..
