What’s Your Smile Hiding?
Twelve years ago, my kids and I attended a birthday party for one of my son’s classmates. It was held on the family’s farm, in the shearing shed. Kids were running around screaming and having fun. It was a simple spring day: nothing exceptional, nothing to keep this event fresh in my mind.
Kelly SibleyPublished 2 years ago in HumansYou're Letting Your Hypocritical Friends Walk All Over You
I'm the survivor of a hypocritical friendship. I got out of the friendship before I too turned into someone I didn't like or couldn't respect. And I exited once all my faith this person cared about had vanished beyond return.
Ellen "Jelly" McRaePublished 2 years ago in HumansMy Most Anticipated Movie of 2022
As someone who became an Austen fan (or I should say obsessed, crazy fan) relatively recently, this was the first movie adaption that I followed throughout the announcement of the movie to the actual release date. When I found out that they were making a new Persuasion movie I was most excited, especially because Henry Golding was going to be in it, but when I say my heart hurts after watching just the trailer- I'm not even kidding.
Lauren Writes AustenPublished 2 years ago in HumansHow I Met Your Mother
Let me take you back to the first week of September, 1993. I saw this girl during orientation week at university. We were on a school bus on the way to a bar for a drink fest (this was back when schools allowed and even sponsored these sorts of things). She was standing in the aisle, one hand on a seatback, the other pushing her hair behind her ear. She was talking with her friends, or maybe just some random people, it was hard to tell. She looked happy though.
Andrew ButtersPublished 2 years ago in HumansWhat should loving yourself mean for you
Loving yourself is vitally important, but it's also a process that takes time. As much as we'd all like to say that you can magically transform into someone who loves themselves overnight, the fact is that loving yourself takes time and effort—and it's not easy. That being said, if you're struggling with self-loathing or self-doubt, there are ways to bring more love into your life and start seeing yourself in a more positive light! I'm here to share with you some of the ways that I've learned over time have helped me learn how to truly love myself better each day.
Courtanae HeslopPublished 2 years ago in HumansThe April Fools: A hero's journey
I am one of the lucky survivors of the expression "boys will be boys." One of the most poignant sayings ever coined, this little gem includes, but is not limited to, a wide range of hormonally induced, reckless, self-imposed ordeals masquerading as rites of passage. Most if not all of these ordeals can be dangerous. Indeed, that is the whole point. In mid-April of 1981, my best friend and I concocted one of our most extreme ordeals during an unseasonably hot and humid four-day stretch of weather.
Mark E. CutterPublished 2 years ago in HumansThe line between partner and carer
I don’t get to spend as much time with Evan as either of us would like, but in the moments we get I feel the line blurring between partner and caretaker. That’s not a complaint. I love this man with my whole heart and I’d gladly spend every second of every day looking after him if it meant that we got to be together. He is, very much, my whole world. Honestly, I’m still a bit baffled that it’s me he chose to spend his life with. But as current circumstances dictate, our relationship is changing.
PhiloctetesPublished 2 years ago in HumansHow (Not) To Kill A Roommate
Hello and hello… I wrote this some time ago when I was still living with roommates. I have seen them come and go; I have seen a lot of different types of behaviour and observed that certain things do not change. Instead, they repeat themselves, like comedy or tragedy on the world stage.
Kendall DefoePublished 2 years ago in HumansSelf-sabotaging Relationship Habits We All Need To Quit
When our relationship implodes, we only have one person to blame. Well, two really. Your (ex)partner and you. Deep down, we know it's our own fault. Yet, we rarely want to admit this, especially when we have the entire world telling us our relationship is a failure, anyway. That's just adding salt to the ailing wound.
Ellen "Jelly" McRaePublished 2 years ago in HumansDeath can be your friend
Death is scary, but it's also a part of life. As you get older and more experienced in the world, you'll start to realize that death isn't something to be afraid of. In fact, death can be your friend—and here's why:
Courtanae HeslopPublished 2 years ago in HumansWhy Are You Still Watching That Crap?
‘Why are you still watching that shit?’ If you watch Love Island, you’ll be familiar with this refrain from people who don’t watch it, and imagine themselves to be more intelligent for their abstinence. If you’re someone who just doesn’t like it, fair enough. Love Island is absolutely not to everybody’s taste. But what’s really annoying is people who criticise it just to try and look clever. There’s more to it than you realise.

So many of us walk this earth in tragedy trying to find our place that missing link wandering around almost aimlessly
