Cancel Culture Is Not Real: Stop Pretending That It Is
You know, I've been wanting to talk about this for months now. Months. Seriously, what happened to us? We used to be a society of responsibility. We, as people, are not perfect, but we try. At least, I'd like to think we try. And when we mess up, when we put our feet in our mouths, when we make an unconscionable mistake, we own up to it. We take responsibility. At least we used to. For at least the past two years now, we've been infected by the two most annoying words in the English language:
Clyde E. DawkinsPublished 2 years ago in HumansWhy Quiet Quitting Is A Myth
If you look at a newspaper or the internet, you'd be forgiven for thinking that half the global population of working age had vanished into the ether. Not a day goes by that there isn't an article about people no longer wanting to work, or employers struggling to find new people.
Natasja RosePublished 2 years ago in HumansI stopped going to school in the sixth grade
I stopped going to school in the sixth grade. Although I lived, and went to school in Yonkers New York my entire life, the kids at school still made fun of me. My long nose was the most popular point of interest when they insulted me, which always puzzled me. My mother had a long nose too, with a bump at the center. Her big curls draped her plump face like a frame enhances a photograph. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and although I looked like my father; wide eyes, slim face, and green eyes that remind me of springtime, my nose was my mothers.

Thingvellir: I am behind the black basalt spur, in front of the immense lichen-covered lawn where the Althing was held, the open-air parliament of the Icelanders. In the cold, sulfur-smelling air, in this asphalt-colored lava land, among pumice dunes and geyser puffs, it is necessary to make a classification of memories and mental associations that pile up confused in my head.
Patrizia PoliPublished 2 years ago in HumansAuthors You Should Read on Vocal
Writers have some things in common, whether they write with a quill on parchment (not so much these days) or on a screen using a keyboard. Most of us use the latter, although we may like to find a good ink pen or favorite pencil and write our creations on paper in a notebook first.
Linda RivenbarkPublished 2 years ago in HumansStories to Love on Vocal Media
Everyone has a story. Actually, everyone has a veritable gold mine of stories. Silly stories that make people laugh. Somber stories that make people cry.

I've made an evaluation about my dating skills that I almost feel ashamed to admit. I suck at dating apps. It's not that there is a contest or anything. They aren't handing out medals for the person who makes the most connections, or who finds love first. That's not the end result worth celebrating.
Ellen "Jelly" McRaePublished 2 years ago in HumansThe Critique
The morning sun shone bright and there was excitement in the air for the start of the year. It was my favorite time for many years, early autumn. When it still felt like summer with all the exuberance for the start of classes. I still get that feeling every fall.
Canuck Scriber L.Lachapelle AuthorPublished 2 years ago in HumansHow To Protect Your Reputation In A Break Up By Starting It Right
Let's get really selfish about break-ups. We know how much they suck for the person getting dumped. It's the worst feeling imaginable. It's heartbreaking (mostly). And it sets off a chain reaction of misery for the impending days/weeks/months/even years.
Ellen "Jelly" McRaePublished 2 years ago in HumansYou're Destroying Your Relationship By Toxic Ex-Partner Friendships
When we broke up, my ex and I swore we were always going to remain friends. Then one of us got a new partner. Then the other got a new partner. And still, we kept our vow to our ex to keep the friendship intact.
Ellen "Jelly" McRaePublished 2 years ago in HumansWhy Cancel Culture Needs to Stay in 2022.
I studied the discipline of literature for five years, and what I value the most from my education is the context. Whether art, literature, music, or film - it has to be viewed in the context of its creation. During critical analysis, you must consider 1. the Context of the text; historical, political, and social. 2. the Purpose, what is the intention? Is there a moral to the story? What was the creator's aim? 3. the Receiver, what effect does it have on you the reader in your contemporary perspective, compared to the effect it had on those who first consumed the text? This is referred to as C.P.R.
Rosie J. SargentPublished 2 years ago in HumansWhy People Crave Connections
Human beings are social creatures. We crave connections and close relationships, feeding off our interactions with others. It’s no surprise that love and belonging comprise the third level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, next up in terms of significance after our physiological and safety needs.
