To My Internet Mums ...

two new mums found online & connected by hearts

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

To my internet mums,

It seems odd to me that only a few short months ago we were strangers, just part of an online group with a common aim and goal for self-improvement, and somehow … Now you are two of the most important people in my life. I see you as my family, because that is what you have been to me … my internet mums who I love.

Of course our relative age gaps should make us more like sisters, but your protective and caring words and thoughts for me feel much more like that of a mum. I turn to you both now for advice, for support, even just to know someone cares about my day sometimes. Because I don't always get that from those I should. I can’t imagine my days now without us sharing our lives, the lows, the highs, and everything in between - memes and banter, and when needed, love and kindness that knows no bounds.

In one of the darkest times in my life, as I was abandoned by blood, both of you were there holding my hand, even if not physically, that's what it felt like. I would not have coped without you both. I will never be able to thank you enough for your support, love, and care in that time and the continued bond we have formed since. In the most sincere way, you have become my family, and if thee's ever anything you need and I can help, all you need to do is ask. 🩷

I don’t want to think about how my life would be right now if you hadn’t started our group, you took that leap and brought us all together. In August when the group started I would never have guessed how important you would become. Dubbed the ‘Queen’ of our online fam, you possess all the hallmarks of a great leader. You’re going through a lot yourself, but you’ve been there for everyone, every step of the way. As I navigated family collapse, you were there every day with thoughtful words that gave me hope and courage to keep going. Encouraging war cries of justice and reminding me that things were not my fault, I was not the one making things go the way they were … your strength sustained me in that time. I hope so much to have the chance to meet you in person for coffee, cake, and chats on day soon. You inspire me every day, your advice and support mean the world to me.

Let’s be honest, the mum vibe is stronger with you for sure. Your nurturing nature and love are felt through your words everyday, I have felt genuinely cared for and supported by you ever since our first interactions. Through you I have made an incredible new friend, in your amazing and wonderful daughter, which to be fair was odd at first, being friend's with both of you! I feel beyond lucky to have had the chance to meet you in person, it was one of the best days I’ve ever had and I felt like I spent a day with family, because I suppose I did … you allowed me to join your own family for a day and enjoy their lovely company, even going so far as to invite me along to family dinner. I still get teary when I think about the day because for that day, for those 12 hours … I was with family that loved and accepted me for who I am - I’m crying as I write this because that day was the first day I was in public and felt no body dysphoria, and no voice dysphoria … I was nervous and awkward at first, that’s my MO, but with you and your beautiful family … I felt home.

You two are forever attached to my heart and are the people I turn to for so much ... We have half joked how any future prospective partner of mine will need your approval, please know that to me this isn’t really a joke, you two are excellent judges of character, and I would trust your instincts on people, and I hope that when I have someone in my life that gets to that stage, and let's not hold our breath that day will come. I’ll have done you both proud, and you'll both approve of them.

I will never be able to thank you enough, or express in words what you have both done for me, and what you mean to me … I love you both with all my heart, my dear and cherished friends …

My internet mums.

Love,
