The Three Foundations of Stable Wisdom
How Protein, Aerobic Rhythm, and Sleep Construct the Brain's Nighttime Upgrades
I focus on three things daily to stabilize my wisdom: protein, walking, and sleep.
What I value most each day is not pursuing excitement, nor seeking bursts of inspiration, nor pushing myself to the point of exhaustion.
What I truly focus on each day are three of the most fundamental things, yet they are closest to the foundation of wisdom:
protein,
walking,
sleep.
Many people think this is just about health.
But I increasingly feel that it is actually the physiological basis for the generation of wisdom.
Because the human brain is not a floating entity.
Human thinking, emotions, judgment, learning, memory, and creativity do not occur out of thin air.
Behind them lies a very specific biochemical system.
Without raw materials, neurotransmitters are difficult to stabilize.
Without rhythm, the mind is difficult to clear.
Without sleep, the differences, errors, experiences, and emotions generated during the day are difficult to organize, integrate, and update.
Therefore, I call these three things:
the three foundations of stable wisdom.
The First Foundation: Protein (The Raw Material Layer)
Protein is not only needed by those who build muscle.
Proteins are essentially the source of amino acids, and amino acids are essential raw materials for the body to synthesize many neurotransmitters.
For example, tryptophan is an important precursor to serotonin, and serotonin is, in turn, related to the production of melatonin.
Tryptophan itself is an essential amino acid; the human body cannot produce it on its own and must obtain it from food.
This is crucial.
Many people talk about wisdom, spirituality, awakening, and higher-dimensional consciousness, but overlook a very fundamental point: the brain needs raw materials to function stably.
If a person suffers from chronic malnutrition, protein deficiency, and insufficient bodily repair capabilities, the brain is more prone to fatigue, anxiety, unstable attention, and mood swings.
This is not simply a matter of willpower. It is a deficiency of systemic raw materials.
Therefore, I understand it this way: protein is the raw material layer of the wisdom system.
You want your mind to be clear. You want emotional stability. You want the ability to face differences, tolerate errors, and update.
You cannot just rely on endurance. You must first ensure your body has the materials to generate, repair, and function.
The Second Foundation: Walking (The Activation Layer)
I am increasingly valuing walking, especially daytime walks.
Walking seems ordinary, but it is actually quite extraordinary for the brain.
Walking is a gentle aerobic activity. Aerobic exercise has been shown in studies to affect multiple systems related to brain stability, learning, mood, and neuroplasticity, including BDNF, serotonin, dopamine, endocannabinoids, and the stress regulation system.
The most noteworthy aspect here is BDNF.
BDNF stands for Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor. You can think of it as fertilizer for the brain to build new connections, repair, and promote neuroplasticity. It is directly related to learning, memory, and neuroplasticity.
So walking is not just about burning calories. Walking is more like putting the brain into a state where it is more renewable.
In my words: BDNF is the physiological foundation for model renewal.
To change an old model, it is not enough to just understand it. You need physical support for neural reorganization. You need to enable the brain to form new connections. You need to free yourself from old reactions that will forever hold you back.
So walking is not a waste of time. Walking is about initiating and renewing.
Besides BDNF, walking also activates systems like serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, and endocannabinoids.
Serotonin is not simply a "happy substance." It is more like a fundamental signal for stability, mood regulation, rhythm, and coping with uncertainty.
Dopamine is not just about pleasure either. It is closer to motivation, anticipation, action initiation, and a sense of purpose.
Endorphins and endocannabinoids are related to post-exercise relaxation, calmness, pleasure, and pain regulation. Research indicates that post-exercise pleasure is not only related to endorphins but also to the endocannabinoid system.
So for me, walking is more than just exercise. It is about bringing the life system back from a stagnant state to a fluid one.
Often, when people sit and overthink, the more they think, the more anxious they become. But when you go outside, your body begins to move, your breathing stabilizes, your vision opens up, and the clutter in your brain gradually decreases.
Those stuck issues will loosen up while walking. Those chaotic thoughts will gradually form structure while walking.
Therefore, I would say this: walking is the starting layer of the wisdom system. It does not just activate enthusiasm; it activates the physiological conditions for brain renewal.
The Third Foundation: Sleep (The Repair Layer)
Sleep is not simply rest. Sleep is the brain's nighttime organization, repair, memory integration, and rhythm reconstruction.
Here is a very important pathway:
Protein/Tryptophan $\rightarrow$ Serotonin $\rightarrow$ Melatonin $\rightarrow$ Sleep Rhythm
Melatonin is mainly secreted by the pineal gland and participates in the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin synthesis is directly related to the tryptophan and serotonin pathway.
Scientific explanations of the pineal gland and melatonin point out that melatonin is synthesized from tryptophan. During the dark period at night, the activity of related enzymes increases, converting serotonin into N-acetylserotonin, and then into melatonin.
Therefore, sleep is not "serotonin itself."
To be more precise: serotonin levels during the day are related to stability, rhythm, and mood regulation. At night, in darkness, serotonin enters the melatonin synthesis pathway. Melatonin then helps the body enter a sleep rhythm.
So, it can be summarized as follows:
Protein provides the raw materials.
Daytime walks and sunlight help stabilize the rhythm.
Serotonin acts as an important precursor.
At night, melatonin takes over.
Sleep completes the repair and processing.
This is what I now understand as the foundation of wisdom. It is not metaphysics. It is not motivational fluff. It is a very concrete bodily system.
Sleep has another key aspect: it allows the large amount of information, emotions, differences, and errors that enter the brain during the day to be processed.
People encounter many differences during the day. A comment from someone. A problem at work. A change in a relationship. A physical discomfort. A student's wrong answer. A setback in life.
If these differences are not processed, they become noise. The more noise there is, the more unstable a person's emotions become. The more noise there is, the less accurate a person's judgment becomes. The more noise there is, the more chaotic a person's predictive models become.
Therefore, sleep is crucial for wisdom. Because wisdom is not constantly being output during the day. Wisdom also needs to be processed at night. It needs repair. It needs integration. It needs to gradually compress the differences and feedback from the day into more stable memories and models.
Therefore, I would say this: sleep is the repair layer of the wisdom system.
If you consistently do not sleep well, you are not just tired. Your entire system's ability to update itself is damaged. Your brain struggles to stably compress the differences from the day. Your emotions are difficult to stabilize. Your judgment is easily distorted by fatigue. Your reactions easily revert to old models.
So I no longer view sleep as just rest. I see sleep as the nighttime reconstruction project of the life system.
The Closed Loop of a Renewable Life System
These three things combined form a stable physiological closed loop for wisdom:
Proteins provide the raw materials (amino acids).
Walking activates neuroplasticity and emotional rhythms.
Sleep completes repair, organization, and model integration.
In more scientific terms: proteins provide amino acids. Tryptophan participates in the serotonin and melatonin pathways. Daytime sunlight and regular activity help calibrate the circadian rhythm. Walking and aerobic activity influence BDNF, serotonin, dopamine, endocannabinoids, and the stress system. At night, melatonin helps the sleep rhythm. Sleep gives the brain a chance to organize memories, stabilize emotions, and restore systems.
Therefore, this is not simply about health maintenance. It is the physiological basis for the generation of wisdom.
I often say: wisdom is not about knowing a lot. Wisdom is being able to face differences, tolerate errors, receive feedback, compress patterns, and update models.
But the problem is: if your bodily systems are unstable, you will find it very difficult to complete this closed loop.
When differences arise, you collapse. When errors arise, you become defensive. When feedback arises, you deny it. When stress arises, you escape.
It is not that you do not want to update. It is because your physiological foundation is too weak to support the renewal process.
Therefore, to truly achieve stable wisdom, you cannot just talk about thoughts, nor can you just talk about the soul, and certainly not just about effort.
You need to return to the body as a system. Your brain needs raw materials. Your nervous system needs rhythm. Your body needs repair. Your model renewal requires a stable physiological platform.
So, the three things I focus on every day are simple:
First, protein: To provide the body with amino acid raw materials.
Second, walking: To activate the brain's renewal conditions, including BDNF, serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, and endocannabinoids.
Third, sleep: To connect the serotonin and melatonin rhythms, allowing the brain to complete repair, organization, and model integration.
These three things seem ordinary. But true wisdom often does not grow from intense burning. Truly stable wisdom grows from a stable and renewable life system.
Therefore, I am increasingly convinced that protein is the raw material of wisdom, walking is the starting point for wisdom, and sleep is the repair process for wisdom.
For a person to grow steadily, it is not just about pursuing more knowledge. It is about making your life system capable of accepting differences, handling errors, receiving feedback, compressing patterns, and updating models.
This is the true foundation of wisdom. It is not about forcing yourself. It is not about hype. It is not about momentary excitement. It is about stabilizing the most basic conditions of life every day.
Because when the body is stable, emotions are stable. When emotions are stable, attention is stable. When attention is stable, models have the opportunity to update. And when models are updated, wisdom is truly generated.
