friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"

8 Ways to Make Long-Distance Relationships Work. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
Long-distance relationships (LDRs) have long been the challenge to beat. Being away from the person you love has always been and will remain a challenge to the strongest of bonds. Yet, with the right strategies and mindset, LDRs can work better and even help deepen the bond. Here are eight ways to ensure your long-distance relationship will stand the test of time. 1. Shared Dreams: Building a Future Together** Shared dreams and goals are definitely a core element of any successful relationship. However, in the case of a long-distance relationship, this becomes even more important. Having both individuals working for the same future keeps it meaningful and prevents the relationship from feeling something temporary. Often, talk about long-term plans. What do you both see for your life with each other? Do you want to come live together, get married, or build that dream home. The shared vision gives the power to move over the distance barriers. Bringing those dreams up at regular intervals can strengthen your resolve and remind you why waiting is worthwhile. 2. The Surprise Art: Keeping the Flame Ablaze** Surprises play a pivotal role in sustaining the charm of a long-distance relationship. These gestures reflect kindness and end the monotony of routine communications. Surprise them with a care package loaded with their favorite snacks, a heartfelt letter, or a small memento reminding them of your bond. Planning an unannounced visit (when practical) or arranging a surprise virtual date, such as watching a movie together online, can also bring joy. These thoughtful gestures remind your partner that they are on your mind and strengthen the emotional connection. 3. Affection Rituals: Creating Consistency** Such rituals provide structure and predictability that can be reassuring in a long-distance relationship. These rituals could be as seemingly mundane as saying good morning and goodnight each day, having a video call once a week, or celebrating every monthly anniversary. For instance, some couples write letters to each other regularly. Others share the same meal for a "date night" or play an online game together. Rituals build a connection and create shared experiences despite the distance. 4. Using Technology: Merging the Distance Long-distance relationships now have a lifeline called technology. Video calls and instant messaging make staying in touch easier than ever before. But more than that, creative use of technology can make the interaction involved in long-distance relationships more lively. You can use apps such as Netflix Party or Teleparty for movie nights, or play multiplayer games together to have fun. You can use voice memos, digital photo albums, and playlists where you work together on music selections. Be sure to find tools that engage the relationship to give you both opportunities to engage in activities that keep you creatively and emotionally involved.

Dear You, All of You
Dear You, all of you. An amalgamation of all of you who hurt me. You’re all interwoven anyway, friends of a friend. Some of you became friends. Some of you hurt each other as much as you hurt me. Some of you left me in the shadows, some of you succumbed to the shadows yourself. No matter what happened, we were what once was. Now we are no more. You’re all beginning to merge, the older I get. No, the wiser I get. Age isn’t anything if you aren’t learning and growing with the days ticking by. You all have taught me a lot and it felt like the right time to turn the perspective.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Dragon. Runner-Up in Letters of Gratitude Challenge.
Dear Mr. Vadney, I don’t know if you would recall me after all these decades, and I’m sure you wouldn’t recognize me now, but you’re one of the few teachers that I remember from grade school. There are parts of that school I wish I could forget, such as the time that I asked a boy I liked (Tim? Jim? Jonny?) if I could kiss him on Valentine’s Day and he made a face that could only be described as “frog eats something even nastier than a fly.” And then there was the bully in our class who sat on my calculator and broke it, and I had to bring it home, crying, and tell my parents. My mom yelled at me for being so careless, but I don’t remember if I ratted out the bully or not. Probably not—my mom would assume it was just me being clumsy, as I invariably was.

The Gifts You Gave
Dearest Nonna: The last memory I have of you, as reading the 23rd Psalm to you, before you passed, because I knew that was what you wanted. It was just eighteen days before my twenty sixth biethday, for almost twenty six years, I was blessed to have you in my life, so I have strong vivid memories of you, and I don't take that for granted.

Friendly Lessons
I can't imagine being the person I am today,if not for my friends. My perspective expanded after interacting with each one of them. Before meeting these people,I wasn't a bad person but to say I could actually think about the needs of 5 other people around me would be an overstatement. I would be nice to people I liked & physically do things for them. But actual goodness is deeper..it involves doing things without being seen & fulfilling needs that weren't expressed. And all this happens organically without the need to think about them all the time. One does these acts without the string of incentive. Day after day,I would come across incidents of friends around me who would act this way. THAT is true friendship. In fact,it's true for all relationships: if they can go beyond incentives only then is the relationship genuine. I have never ending gratitude for all my friends & friends of friends who showed me the true meaning of being a friend & friendly/brotherly/sisterly love.
