fact or fiction
Is it a fact or is it merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores relationship myths and truths to get your head out of the clouds and back into romantic reality.
Preamble
A man started to wander his neighborhood at dusk. It was a dusk that stops people out running errands, leaving work, living otherwise unremarkably, just for a second with its comfortable temperatures and striking but unpretentious colors. It was the kind of dusk that momentarily evokes intrinsic memories of contentedness. The man breathed in the scents suspended in the humidity as he walked frantically but without purpose. He strayed from his neighborhood. His mind raced, but he thought of very little. He enjoyed no moment of pause or peace in the gift of a lovely evening.

The black book
“The stuff I get myself into.” She sat on the hood of her car for a bit, peering into the woods. “God damn compulsions.” She slid off the hood, walked back to the trunk, opened it up, and took out a pick and shovel. She peered up was seemed to be an overgrown driveway heading off toward the hill, but the birch, alder and pine had had a good 40-odd years to grow, and it was a challenge picking her way along it. She came to a less dense area where it seemed there was once a clearing. To the north edge, tucked in at the foot of the hill, were the remains of a small cabin. The corrugated tin roof had collapsed down into the interior, the green paint mostly eroded away. The front wall had partially caved in showing an interior full of rotting leaves and branches. It was very unimpressive. She shook her head and grimaced.

Ophiuchus
Most of my life I considered myself a Sagittarius. Born on December 10th, I love an adventure, a well-placed joke, and deep discussions just as one could expect from the sign. However, there were some characteristics that didn’t really match how I am. Sagittarius tends to be lackadaisical, bored with details and serious matters. They also don’t like clingy people and are difficult to pin down into a committed relationship. These traits have never matched me. I found myself in a predicament were I liked the idea of astrology, but I couldn’t fully support who they said I should be.

The Morten Heir
The Mortem Heir The sky was crimson as the last ray of the sun folded under the horizon. The wind gently blowing my long hair back as the entire sky darkened before me on the roof of the hotel. I tore my eyes away, spots blinding my watery vision.

The Bigger Picture
Emma marvelled at the knife’s blade as it sliced through the lime with ease. She wondered why she didn’t give it to the kitchen to sharpen earlier. She would have finished prepping this bucket of limes half an hour ago. She glanced at her watch. Only 11:30. How could she have only been here an hour? It felt like twelve.

Windfall
Doris reached out to the pile of notebooks on the scarred top of her old oak desk and selected the small black book that lay on top. She knew it was old-fashioned of her to still make notes by hand, but she had always loved the act of setting her thoughts down on paper, the feel of the pen in her hand, the flow of the ink, the words emerging across the page in her slanted and slightly untidy script. She had one notebook to track the seasons and the weather; another to record gardening ideas (if you could call tending the row of pots on her balcony during summer gardening); and one for ideas and inspirations for minor home improvements, including potential expenses that needed research and careful thought before taking action.

The Most Influential Cookie Wrapper in The World.
The Most Influential Cookie Wrapper in The World. Well…welcome to the nut house! Don’t mind me, I’m just getting strapped to a hospital bed in the seclusion sweet. Those dammed white suits. They code whited me. They got me completely surrounded. Holding me down. My legs. My arms. Everything! Even my head. But I’m not even resisting. Like what the fuck? My ridiculous muscles are completely still. Holding back the urge to go nuts and start throwing knock out punches. Hitting women and men without prejudice. The authoritarians would want it that way. Wearing their pants and strap on cocks.

Daisy-Chain
Sarah would never forget the sound that Neil’s spade made as it hit the side of the coffin. It was halfway between a thud and a scrape and very different from the gritty, ringing sound that the digging had made just before. Sarah had been helping Neil to dig up the flagstones, not by actually digging, there was only one spade, but by running inside and fetching Cokes and ice-lollies whenever Neil looked hot or thirsty. Sarah’s Dad said that Neil was “a fat twat” and that meant that he shouldn’t drink cans of Coke, but Neil liked Coke and Sarah liked Neil, so she brought him all the Cokes he wanted.

A Winning Discovery
“How the hell did I end up here? I had big dreams once!” My name is Sarah and I’m stuck in a deadend cubicle job. You know the type - a small, not private space where it’s the roll of a dice on whether or not you get along with the person next to you. Unlike the rest of the inmates working here. I didn't want to settle into this odd, cubicell of a lifestyle made up of tweed-covered hollow walls, cords spilling out from every direction, and an office chair that squeaked every time I swiveled to the right.
