Le Grand Bal de Klüsterbonk
"Wine is for friends and family!" Séraphine's glare knocked the glass of merlot from my hand, sending the treasure vaulting through the air. For a moment, time seemed to slow. Even the wine's flight seemed otherworldly, like a divinely spun silk rippling on the wind. It commanded the air like an enchantment.

A Date with Fate
Vera Pennington adjusted her glasses as she sat pensively looking at the small screen in front of her. She had not expected to find love so quickly. It was hard for her to put the words together but between the half-dozen horrible dates she had subjected herself to this past month alone, what did she think would made “Just Jim” any better or different than the rest of her online suitors? It was a well-known fact amongst all of Vera’s friends that she had all but had given up on the whole idea of dating and finding love when “Just Jim” messaged her that Thursday, a week before her life changed forever. She had been surprised by how easy it was to talk to Jim and their conversations went on for hours and hours and before she knew it, the hours had materialized into days.

It was the wine!
It was the wine! Tolrem, a handsome, tall man in his mid-thirties, walks down the street as a notification goes off on his phone. He glances left then right before crossing the street then reaches for his phone. He opens the text: "Erl has messaged you back". Tolrem abruptly stops, removes his facial covering for some air and opens the thread: "I think the beautiful one here is you”, reads the message from Erl, with a picture of a pretty girl. Tolrem's face is revealed to us for the first time, as a jaw-dropping smile with perfect white teeth shines. His eyes seem drunk in excitement. Tolrem puts the phone back in his coat and, with a spring in his step, walks away. We see other people walk by wearing facial coverings.

No use crying
The date had started off so well. I had knocked back a rushed gin and tonic before reapplying my lipstick and running out the door. I arrived 10 minutes late, saying very cutely that I had got lost on the way (which wasn’t a complete lie - the winding streets surrounding the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre resembled a tangled ball of wool). We quickly established that we would speak French (even though his English was excellent); après tout, on est à Paris, non? We walked up the steep steps that led to the foot of the cathedral, and I tried not to pant as I cursed the rollie I had smoked out the window while doing my makeup.

The Little Blackbird
Dominic paced up and down the street in front of the Little Blackbird cafe, and took some deep, calming breaths. Why couldn't he force his racing brain to come to heel? Stop thinking worst case, start thinking best case. Yes, this was his first date (practically a blind date) with someone he'd met on the internet. But he knew James, they'd been online friends for about five years, and everything in their interactions said he was a nice, kind man who would make a great real-time friend, even if they didn't click physically. It would be all right.

A Date To Remember
Mel’s right ring finger tapped at her L key, light enough so it wouldn’t fully press in, yet enough pressure to create a rhythmic, high pitched plunk. She wondered what would happen to her computer if she actually pressed the L hard enough. Would it close out all her tabs? Invite a virus to wipe out her files? Pull out a link to aggressive porn while sharing her screen for all Zoom participants to witness? Or better yet, could it kick her out of this meeting and allow her to blame it on technical issues?
