dating
All about dating. First dates, three years into a relationship, Tinder, and more.
Eight Hours
I'm sitting at a table where I have a clear view of the door, the glass of Merlot warm in my hand. I try to remember how they taught me to hold a wine glass properly that one time I went wine tasting. By the stem? Or was that only for white? Anyway, I'm trying to appear classy. I cross and uncross my legs nervously, tug at my shirt and try to sit up straighter. I smooth my hair twice and then tell myself to stop moving so much...we're classy remember?

Merlot and art
T hursday. I bumped into him on Sainte-Catherine in Montreal and dropped my shopping bag. Apparently my ocean-blue eyes and blonde hair with runner-athletic build was his type. He was one of my many types which range from tall slim blonde Scandinavians to dark haired stocky men with a raffish 5 o'clock shadow. He apologized for the collision even though it was my fault for not looking left when I left the shop. He politely requested a dinner date for the following evening. Free food! I was delighted but insisted on meeting him at the restaurant he suggested.

A glass of Merlot for Todd
Claire was sitting in a burgundy velvet booth waiting for her date to show up at Harvest. She couldn’t believe that she was dating again, her relationship with Kevin was supposed to last forever. Then Kevin came home one day and broke the news to her that he met someone, and she was dazzling. Claire didn’t want to be one of those overly emotional women and lash out and throw things. She didn’t want him to win, and so, she stayed calm while remaining controlled, this would blindside him. This option to behave with decorum would slowly bother him in a way that suggestive itching can bother someone to start scratching. So, here she was sitting at one of the finest restaurants in Seattle, waiting on her first date in four years with Todd.

The perfect first date
We matched on a dating app some time ago. The conversation flowed, back and forth. We shared some common interests. Months had passed before we were able to organise a meeting. My initial assumption was that it would be a platonic meeting. I asked for clarification, “So, this this going to be a date? Or are we two potential friends meeting up?” “I’ll see you Friday night for our first date” he replied. My first proper date since my breakup. I guess I was in denial. I’m a romanticist, a dreamer. I love nothing more than a sensual moment, a slow dance. A passionate kiss. The downside to being this way, a dreamer, is that often my expectations are sky-high and reality can often fail to live up to the dream. ‘Will this be another dream that does not come to fruition?’ I thought to myself as I, fittingly, gazed through the window during my daily commute.

Merlot and Working
My pleasure vent of blissful breeze serves a beautiful purpose to my sweaty forehead as I enter the revolving doors inside the bank downtown. The Reddit post I read the other day mentioned an author signing at the bookstore and coffee shop inside the same building. I am a massive fan of the bookstore's selection and a self-published author with a flower garden of glitters in my eyes for some merlot at the coffee shop to ease my mind.

The Day I met Ella
I remember the day I met Ella as clear as a blue-skied middle-of-July summer day. I had just arrived in this strange city. I was part of a new family: a family I yearned to be part of for years, a family I dreamed of at night when the monsters in my closet teased me for being a cry baby. Here I was, with my father at last - the hero who would one day rescue me from said monsters. Or so I thought.
