Jane and Jason sat by the opposite windows in the back of the cab, Jane with her knees pointing toward the middle and Jason with his hand resting on the middle seat. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" asked Jason with a playful, but intense grin. "I want to make a difference in the world," answered Jane without hesitation, saving her very literal answer with a flirty, "one city at a time," referencing an earlier exchange of current work and past studies. Jason worked with a real-estate firm after going to university in another country for international studies where he played track and field in his first year. Jane was working for the government in policy after finishing a degree in urban planning. Jason then said "Yeah, sounds like a bunch bullshit to me" before the conversation changed to be about his friends. While talking about "balling" with them and how much better at "b-ball" he is than his friends, Jane was getting confused at a sudden and steady change in the way he was speaking. "Are you that drunk? What just happened to your voice?" with a chuckle and a grin. "Wuh?" he said coldly and moved his gaze from the window pulling his hand up onto the headrest of the middle seat. Jane felt like he was getting a better look at her so she sobered up a bit to make sure she made sense, now that she could see she had his attention again.

"You're talking like I would expect your friends to talk, but it's not how you've been talking to me all night." He watched as Jane adjusted her body to face him and pulled her knees up onto the seat with her. "Ah." He said sharply before putting his hand on her inner thigh and moving his finger up her skirt. Jane put her hand on his wrist and moved his hand down again and then looked up to make eye contact that gave her the feeling like she'll be punished for that later.

"$18.45" the cabbie said abruptly as he stopped in front of a house Jane had driven by countless times before. She recounted memories of a friend from elementary who she later lost touch with through high school, but then visited in university once, in a house on Jason's same road. It was another main commuter road giving access to the downtown core, but part of the residential district, instead of the commercial road Jane currently lived on. The road had trees between the sidewalk and the pavement and had well-kept homes with retired residents on one side, and large old houses divided into apartments with board-style tenants living in them on the other.

Jason handed the cabbie a $20 before exiting the cab and walking up the stairs to the door on the left, leading to another set of stairs to the upper apartment. At the top of the stairs, Jane was led down the hallway to the back of the house, after seeing a door to a patio open with a young girl sitting with her dog, and smoking from a bong outside on the front patio. They walked past two other bedrooms, the kitchen and a washroom before arriving to his bedroom (small and no closet, but with a window). As Jane and Jason continued hanging out together, he later moved to the lower apartment, where he used his knowledge of tenancy to manage the unit's bedrooms in a way that gave him the biggest room while living there rent-free (to give you a hint to where his character development is leading).

Jane was handed a bong and gestured to move back down the hall to the front patio with the girl and her dog. Jason followed her outside holding other weed supplies and sat at a small side table and began grinding buds and loading the bowl. "You're a lot prettier than all the other girls he brings around here." The girl with dog said after studying Jane's long, wavy, black hair; tall (for a girl), thin, soccer body; and ethnic face with high cheek bones, defined jaw, almond eyes, and dark, olive skin. Unfortunately Jane was a little too familiar with the casual sex lifestyle and the thought of fucking someone who was doing that with multiple others was part of her current sexual habits. Although, she could defend herself for that with a past sob story of her first love ending in terrible heartbreak (but there might be less sympathy once discovered that the heartbreak was over a young, confused boy who had a tendency of cheating)

He quickly cut the roommate off with a quick "Stop speaking," before taking a few tokes and then offering one to Jane. Jane had only smoked once before when visiting with a childhood friend who went away for university, but in the spirit of fitting in said, "I'm not really sure how to do it, like this?" before Jason moved to correct her grip and said "Now just lift your thumb up and breathe in once the bud is lit." Jane did as instructed and had an instant head rush, before encouraging the roommate to keep spilling details of this mystery friend she now found herself enamoured with. "What do they usually look like?" Jane asked before making eye contact with the girl while petting her dog that had been curiously sniffing around Jane since she joined the patio party. The girl looked at Jason with a look that said "I'll talk to whoever I want," before then saying "Usually less clean, and more hipster," before looking down and gesturing her dog back to her side. Jane chuckled to ease the atmosphere, "Makes sense, yeah, I'm a bit more preppy I guess."

"C'mon, let's go back to my room," Jason said before standing up with his things and continuing down the hall. He put everything in his bedroom before going back to the kitchen and looking for food. He grabbed some leftover from the fridge and started eating, "Yeah, I usually go for hipsters. You're not really my type, but I feel like we have a connection." Jane was not used to guys giving this type of comment. She was more experienced with guys who would only talk about liking her physical appearance, so she thought about this comment heavily before getting interrupted again by Jason in moving in front of her and holding her waist before kissing her and pushing her into his bedroom. And, there it is, back to the physical, but she certainly didn't mind.
