“Grief” by Elsie Flores-Jimenez
I can’t eat
I can’t sleep
I can’t grieve
How do you mourn a situation
How do you get rid of a frustration
What do you lean on when there’s no family tree
Broken branches are all around me
Death seems to say trick-or-treat
I’ve got Gnarls Barkley on repeat
Life is an endless loop of defeat
I don't seem to belong anywhere painless
Independence is constantly demanding payment
I want to apologize
To younger generations
Please realize in adulthood there is no vacation
Give me time and space
Grief isn’t a race
Let my tears flow down with grace
