And it has nothing to do with your skills

There is one major reason why most people struggle to earn more money, and do things that gives them personal joy and satisfaction.

Let me illustrate this with a short story.

Story

Once upon a time, a bird was flying high in the sky carrying fish in its beak. Suddenly it started raining. The bird got excited and opened its mouth. The fish fell out of its mouth and dropped straight into a well filled with water.

In that well, there lived a frog.

The fish popped its head out of the water to check its environment and saw a frog sitting at one end of the well, looking at it with wide-eyed surprise.

The frog looked at its new intruder and asked, “Who are you?”

Fish responded, “I am fish.”

Frog asked, “Where did you come from?”

Fish responded, “I came from the ocean.”

Frog asked, “What is ocean?”

Fish pointed to the water in the well and said, “It is water, but with a large quantity.”

Frog quizzed, “How large is the ocean? Is it as large as the water in this well”

Fish shook its head and said, “No, the water in the ocean is much larger than the well.”

Frog spread its fore limbs wide and asked, “Is it this large?”

Fish shook its head vigorously, and said, “No no. It is much much larger.”

Frog curiously asked, “Is it this large?”, and jumped from one end of the well to another end of the well to emphasize the quantity of water.

Fish shook its head dejectedly and said, “No no. It is much, much larger than that.”

The fish dismissively responded, “I do not believe you. If I have not seen it, then I don’t think there is anything that can hold as much water as the well."

Both fish and frog retired for the night. Soon it started raining heavily. It rained all night. The water in the well rose to the brim.

The fish, looking at this opportunity, asked frog if it can take a piggyback on its back and hop out of the well.

Fish was reluctant and said, “I have always lived in the well and comfortable here. I do not want to take risk going out there.”

After some persuasion by the fish, the frog then agreed to carry the fish out of the well.

When both the fish and the frog jumped out of the well and hopped a few yards, they were on a sea beach staring at the ocean.

Having never seen such a large body of water before, the frog was just gaping at the sea wide-eyed, and then asked the fish, “What is this?”

Having never see such large body of water in its life before, the frog was just gaping at the sea, and then asked fish, “What is this?”

Fish replied, “This is the ocean. My home”. The fish then thanked the frog for its hospitality, and so saying, took a plunge into the ocean.

The frog learned a new lesson.

‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹o0Ô0o›››››››››››››››››››››››››››››››››››

We also learned a lesson.

If you truly want to earn more money, or change your life for good, then the number one lesson we learned from this story is to change our mindset.

What are those changes in mindset?

They are:

  • Be ready to learn something new, instead of dismissing what you do not understand right away.
  • Get out of your “I know it all” attitude.
  • Get out of your comfort zone. Make informed decisions and calculated risks in your career or investment after doing your due diligence.
  • Do not look at the world with a biased mind, or a preconceived notion. You may miss out on many opportunities.

Let all of us who strive to live a great life get out of the frog mentality.

Be adventurous. Be bold. Do what is right. Go wherever your heart takes you.

I hope you enjoyed this story.
