How fickle life can be
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Also, we have grown to be taught and know what separates death and life is just a thin line. In this vein, I have since been wondering how fickle life can be. You see someone today and the next day you hear they are gone.
Olalekan AdeekoPublished 3 years ago in HumansAre Subscription Boxes Worth It?- Here's My Experience
Subscription boxes seem to be very popular, especially among people aged 25-44. And yet, six months ago, I had no idea what they even were. I live in Greece and well, we're behind on many things in comparison with the USA (and the rest of the world, if we're being honest).

Izzy and Trent stood on the bare ground that was their own. Trent held the title to the land in his hands, reverently, like a gift.
Angie AllanbyPublished 3 years ago in HumansThe Barns That Built Me
It was a simple life and humble beginning in Appalachia. My father built an old barn way out in the countryside. The barn itself appeared little more than a shack. We lived in a trailer with clean well water. The power went out frequently due to falling trees and weather. I remember making a trip to purchase a generator in a terrible snowstorm because we had no way to run the well pump, and had ran out of the water we saved. The cows, pigs, and horses were always fed, the hay was baled each year, and additions were added onto the barn as income became available.

In the movie THE FIVE HEARTBEATS, the character Big Red (Hawthorne James) attends the funeral of Jimmy Potter ( Chuck Patterson) the man that he had murdered. If that were not bad enough after viewing the body he goes over to Jimmy's grieving widow Eleanor (Diane Carroll) and instead of offering condolences, he propositions her right there in the church. Eleanor is so outraged that she slaps him in the face. This is one of those movie moments that remain in the psyche of many who watched this film.

He defined himself as a shark in all things. He chose it to mean that he excels at all things. Sales. The boardroom. The bedroom.

Love, cake, and whisky
The evidence was there, sprawled out on the kitchen table like a dieter’s crime scene. Dark crumbles of chocolate cake, strewn across a white tablecloth, meeting the seeping stains of red wine from the now empty bottle, on its side trickling its last drops onto the floor.

Katelyn was blessed with a mane of flaming red hair which was also a bit of a curse for it aptly warned suitable suitors of her fiery temper. “That temper of yours may cost you your soulmate,” warned Seamus more than once. The prescience of his statement can be debated, but for Katelyn it seems too true. Katelyn Doneghan, a sturdy woman, was born of hardy Irish stock. Her father, Seamus raised her to know the ways of the world, its harshness, its cruelty; but he also instilled in her an understanding that love abounds in all creatures great and small.
David Zinke aka ZINKPublished 3 years ago in HumansHilary Came To The Barn
Hilary and I crossed paths along Scotland's bonny plains. She was an unusual woman, whose husband had jumped off to death from a bridge near Perth. The area she lived in was a tranquil spot. Hilary had four crazy daughters who were all mature teenagers. They were not well behaved young ladies. Quite a handful in fact. It seemed to me Hilary dived in and out of romances. No pause before the next run. Out of the frying -pans into the fire. All her romances were the most dreadful kinds. Hilary took to buying a white horse. A cheap catch, to sooth her nerves. He was an old boy her horse, stocky type, far more reliable than her choices in romantic matters.

In the loft of your nan’s old barn, the smaller one with the rusting roof that I painted metallic silver for less than minimum wage, lies an empty manger covered in cobwebs.

I don’t have a presence in this apartment. It’s all downstairs, in storage. When I look around, all I see are things that aren’t mine.
