Is A Promise Really A Comfort To A Fool?

Back in the day, a man would say he will do something and no question is asked for reassurance. The reason for this is, if he didn't do what he said he will do, he would be considered untrustworthy and incompetent. That is not a reputation someone who calls himself a MAN would like hanging over his head. A good reputation was like gold to protect and preserve. Sticking to your word also shows dependability and honor.

As time progressed, people evolved and moved away from customs that were considered “the golden rule”. Don't get me wrong now...not everyone is like this. Some people have held tight to the customs and teachings they grew up knowing, even though they may be looked on as being strange. Many people today are unreliable and cannot be trusted. Every word that utters from their mouths needs to be fact-checked or every promise made has taught the receiving party to never rely on it.

Not keeping your word makes you look like a liar to the other person on the receiving end, and you cannot blame them for feeling that way. If you are not able to deliver on your word, it’s best to keep your mouth shut.

There is a population that challenges people to keep their promise and these are children. Have you ever tried telling your child something just to get her off your case and hoped she will never remember? Very bad mistake! Kids don’t forget. Even you can concur with me because you can look back and may be remembered as far back to when you were two years old. Never make promises to your children that you cannot keep because they are looking for you to deliver and will let you know that they remember.

There are many people who have been let down, yet remain hopeful. I must say, sometimes the person who made the promise delivers when you least expect it. This might even be when you are in great need.

Yet, there are people who will wait forever. Don’t be this person because it is not in some people to deliver on their word. I can only suggest for your sake that you try to wipe that chapter from your mind. Doing this is less stressful... making it one less thing to think about.

There are some people who mean well when they make promises, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, they are not able to deliver. This is not a great space to be in because now you feel incompetent. These are the type of people who will try very hard to ensure that they do what they said they will do. On the other hand, some folks will make promises just to get you out of their hair or to make you feel good for the moment. These are the people you need to discern and not get caught up into.
