God's Biggest Gift

The Rainbow

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love rainbows. It doesn’t matter if you see a partial arc, a full half, or an entire circle – we all love rainbows and are always awed at their beauty.

I like to think of them as God’s Little Gift to humanity; to show us that no matter how ugly we try to make the world, God can always toss us something beautiful to look at.

It isn’t any wonder, then, why so many of us adopt rainbow-themed items to decorate our homes. Very often, we can find glass crystals hanging in a window to create a few prisms to dance around the room as the crystal gently spins.

We’ve all seen children’s toys adorned with rainbows. Rainbow stacking rings. Not only are they dyed with the colors of the rainbow, but these stacking rings are sized in order of their size. They help teach children colors, sizes, shapes, and how to stack.

Then, we have the slinkies. Oh, how I loved my slinky when I was a kid. Mine, however, back in the early 50s, was a dull gray, often lost under a chair. Eventually, the manufacturer had a brilliant idea of coloring the toy. It was then made a bright rainbow color so kids could find it easier and also make it more fun to play with.

We also have plastic blocks, The Rainbow Kate Doll, and of course, the ever-popular Pony Unicorns.

There are so many today decorated in the colors of the rainbow. Why? Because they help to teach children colors. The soft colors (pastels) are used for most children under the age of five. Then, they’re introduced to the deeper primary colors of red, blue, etc.

At one time, all the toys children played with were made by their parents. No one had money to visit a store and buy a toy or two. Money was hard to come by and there were more important things to buy, like food, gas for the car, coal to cook with, shoes. If the clothes on their backs weren’t store bought, the mothers made them, but she still would find it necessary to purchase the material.

Then, mass production of toys began. Toys were no longer a one-of-a-kind, wooden, made-by-dad toy, or a sock doll mom made from one of dad’s old socks. Now, it was a bit easier to visit a store and buy something.

Toys, especially the ones decorated in a variety of colors, made children happy. Children opened their eyes wider when they saw the beautiful pastel colors. They eagerly reached for that rattle, or doll, or the Pony Unicorn.

Isn’t that what’s it all about? Happiness? Isn’t happiness worth striving for? I can’t for the life of me, see why anyone would choose to be miserable when there can be so much happiness in the world.

Why would you even try to deny someone from being happy? How would you like it if something told you that something you wanted that would make you happy was forbidden? You couldn’t have it. Against the rules!

In all the years since toys for kids began being sold in stores, painted with color, I have never, I mean NEVER heard of any toy encouraging a child’s gender preference.

Do I care of your LGBTQ? Hell NO! That’s your decision and yet, so many people are trying to eliminate anything that is decorated in the colors of a rainbow. Why? Because the “gay” community adopted it as their symbol. So what? My symbol is the American Flag. Are you going to try and take that away from me? You damn well better not! I have friends who will fly the American Flag in their yards, and right below that banner, is the Flag of the nation where they were born. It’s their right!

How many of you remember when the word “gay” meant to be happy? I do and I’m not that old. Why would so many people want to take the happiness away from same-sex couples? They’re not hurting anyone and they’re just as much in love with their partners as those who have relationships with people of the opposite sex, in fact, I’d bet there are way fewer divorces in the gay communities than there are with others that are considered straight. Oh any, who ever decided to call us straight? And what does that really mean, anyway? Aren’t we all human? Don’t we all bleed the same way? Isn’t the color we all bleed red?

There is no difference between us. My best friend loves Brussel sprouts. I hate them. Which one of is right and which one the oddity? Why should either be labeled “different” because of our choices in food, clothes, or partners?

God gave us all life and a free will to live it how we feel is right for us.

God gave us rainbows to show us the beauty of his love after a rain.

God gave us each other to make us all happy. Let’s not disappoint Him.
