Gayle King Shares Update Supporting Oprah Through Illness

"I couldn't keep enough water down to stay hydrated, so I went to the emergency room for that," Oprah Winfrey told her longtime friend Gayle King.

Gayle King recently provided an update on Oprah Winfrey's health.

On June 11, King, 69, shared on CBS Mornings that Winfrey, 70, had been hospitalized due to a stomach virus and dehydration. Later that day, King FaceTimed Winfrey to clarify the situation. During the morning show, King had explained Winfrey's absence from a scheduled appearance to announce her latest book club pick, "Familiaris" by David Wroblewski.

In an Instagram clip, King virtually spoke with Winfrey, confirming that she was not actually hospitalized.

"I never said you were hospitalized. I did say that you had a stomach issue, with symptoms from both ends, which was true," King said in the video.

"I was in the emergency room because I was so dehydrated," Winfrey responded. "My mouth was dry, and I couldn't keep enough water down, so I went to the emergency room for that. That's all."

Winfrey then mentioned she's "not 100 [percent], but on my way to 100," adding that five others in her household had also caught the same virus.

"The point I was trying to make, America, is that it had to be something serious to keep her from getting on a plane and coming," King added about Winfrey's absence. Winfrey noted it was the "first ever" book club pick she had missed.

"I was too weak to get on the plane," Winfrey added.

The Color Purple star advised people to wash their hands frequently to prevent catching the virus, as her doctor mentioned it could be transmitted via door knobs and railings.

King also asked if Winfrey was "offended" by her sharing the health news. Winfrey replied, "No, I thought what you were trying to do was explain why I wasn't there, and you did that in a definitive way."

"Everyone I've ever known who has access to my email has contacted me to ask, 'Are you alright?' Thanks!" she added with a laugh.

"This is Oprah's 'I'm alright' face," King noted.

King captioned the post: "A first for @cbsmornings, announcing @oprah’s latest book club pick #Familiaris without Oprah! She was sidelined with a stomach virus that caused such dehydration she went to the hospital for an IV drip."

"I thought I made that clear, but next thing I know, headlines are screaming 'Oprah’s hospitalized!' (She was NOT!) And I’m bombarded with calls asking if Oprah is okay. The answer is yes! And now let's go straight to the source," King added.

During the June 11 broadcast, King mentioned that Winfrey had "some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — with symptoms from both ends."

"I won't get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydrated, and had to get an IV," King said, describing it as "a very serious thing" and noting that her friend needed to rest.

"She will be okay. I hope she's not mad at me for sharing that detail," King told viewers. "But I wanted to make it clear that it mattered to her, and she was really bothered that she couldn't be here for you today."

A spokesperson for Winfrey told, “Ms. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor. She is resting and feeling better every day.”

Only your Lord Himself, full of Majesty and Honour, will remain ˹forever˺.

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

The attached second person pronoun in rabb-i-ka [=your Lord ] refers to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . It is a great honour for him that he should be remembered by Allah in special ways when praising him, as for instance, ` abduhu (His servant).

Here, Allah, the Lord of lords, declares His direct special relationship with the Holy Prophet ﷺ and addresses him thus: rabb-i-ka [ your Lord ].

According to the well-known exegetes, the verse purports to convey that since everything [ including jinn and mankind ] dwelling on earth will be reduced to nothing, and the heavenly bodies all brought to naught, and the whole material universe made non-existent, still human reason demands that there should be a Being who should remain and who should never die.

Such a Being is Allah Who created the whole universe and Who is the First and the Final Cause of all things. He alone will abide because He is Self-Subsisting, All-Sustaining, Independent and Besought of all.

The word fana' has two possible meanings: [ 1] everything is potentially subject to decay and death and is eventually destined to perish, having no capacity for permanence and immortality; and [ 2] all things will actually pass away on Doomsday.
