Once upon a winter evening in Delhi back in 1975, the lives of two souls intertwined in a remarkable encounter. PK Mahanandia, a talented Indian artist renowned for his quick portraits, found himself face to face with a curious tourist named Charlotte Von Schedvin. Little did they know that this chance meeting would ignite an extraordinary love story, leading to an epic bicycle journey spanning continents.

Intrigued by Mahanandia's claim of creating a portrait in just 10 minutes, Charlotte decided to put his skills to the test. However, the initial results were not quite what she had hoped for. Undeterred, she returned the following day, only to be met with a similar outcome. Unbeknownst to her, Mahanandia's mind was preoccupied with a prediction his mother had made years earlier, during his school days in the village of Orissa.

Growing up as a Dalit, facing discrimination from the upper-caste students, Mahanandia often sought solace in his mother's words. She had told him that his horoscope foretold a future in which he would marry a woman from a faraway land, a Taurus, who owned a jungle and possessed a musical inclination. And in the presence of Charlotte, whose Swedish heritage traced back to nobility, these memories flooded Mahanandia's mind.

Having discovered her ownership of a forest and shared zodiac sign, Mahanandia's heart leaped with recognition. It was as if an inner voice whispered to him that she was the one destined to be his partner. Love ignited between them, a magnetic connection from the very first moment they met.

Still astounded by his audacious questions, Charlotte wanted to understand the intentions behind them. Multiple conversations ensued, and eventually, she agreed to accompany Mahanandia to his village in Orissa. En route, they marveled at the majestic Konark temple, a place Charlotte had only ever seen framed in a picture back in her student room in London.

Deeply moved by the experience, they returned to Delhi, where Charlotte donned a sari to meet Mahanandia's father and family. Overwhelmed with blessings and support, the couple decided to marry according to tribal traditions, solidifying their commitment to one another.

But as Charlotte's time in India drew to a close, she urged Mahanandia to follow her to her hometown in Boras, Sweden. Yet, financial constraints stood as a barrier between them. Determined to overcome this obstacle, Mahanandia sold all his possessions and embarked on an incredible journey—a bicycle ride across continents.

Commencing on January 22, 1977, Mahanandia pedaled approximately 70 kilometers (44 miles) every day. Art became his lifeline as he captured portraits of people he encountered along the way, receiving not only monetary support but also food and shelter. The world he traversed in the 1970s was a vastly different place, where visas were not a necessity in most countries. Afghanistan, with its calm beauty and love for the arts, left a lasting impression on Mahanandia. And although language barriers occasionally arose, he found solace in the universal language of love, transcending communication gaps.

Undoubtedly, the journey was physically demanding, often leaving Mahanandia tired and his legs weary. However, the anticipation of reuniting with Charlotte and exploring new lands propelled him forward. Finally, on May 28, he reached Europe, arriving in Gothenburg via Istanbul and Vienna, the culmination of a remarkable odyssey.
