Don’t Believe These Pieces of Terrible Relationship Advice

Play hard to get. Really?

You can always get advice from anyone. Some are really good, some are somewhat doubtful, and some are really popular and cliché.

For the most part, they are helpful. But not all advice is worth following. You may not realize it, but some of them are terrible and unrealistic.

To avoid falling into the pit, listed below are some bad relationship advice you might want to think twice about before accepting.

Love conquers all.

Apparently, love conquers and changes almost nothing.

You need more than love to keep a relationship going. If your partner doesn’t respect you, do you think love is enough for you to stay? Would you stay in the relationship if your partner has serious trust issues? Most likely not.

Love also isn’t enough to change a person. If you're unwilling to change, what makes you think your partner will do it instead? Yes, opposites attract. But in the long run, when the attraction fades, it needs to be managed.

Being with someone is better than being alone.

It’s the usual advice people give when you’re trying to get out of a toxic relationship. Don’t let them pressure you. If you think the relationship is hopeless, leave. Know your worth and uphold it.

When you’re single, don’t let the same advice force you into a relationship. Set realistic standards. Never lower your standards nor tone down your intimidating nature just to please someone’s ego.

If being in a relationship means you’d have to suppress yourself and be someone you’re not, then being alone is so much better.

We all have a soulmate.

“There’s a perfect person for you,” they say.

The idea of a perfect person — a soulmate, is romantic. But it is unrealistic! Nobody’s perfect and neither are relationships.

Maybe you see someone who’s far from perfect; someone you have so many differences with. This person has flaws and will sometimes make mistakes.

But you’re compatible with this person because you complement each other. You understand and respect your differences. Your relationship isn’t perfect, but you work hard to keep it afloat.

Play hard to get.

If you do this, you’re most likely doomed to a lifetime of waiting.

Acting disinterested won’t always make you look more desirable. Get out there if you’re ready to be in a relationship. If you see someone as a potential partner, then show interest.

There’s no point in disregarding someone’s attention just to appear hard to get. They’ll most likely spend their time pursuing someone who’s not playing games and takes dating more seriously.

Having children will save the relationship.

This is seriously the dumbest advice of them all. What can having a kid do to solve your major, almost irreconcilable issues as a couple?

Bringing an innocent child into this world will not save your relationship. It may bring you two together for a while; but with foundations so weak, your relationship’s still bound to fall apart.

You will only give the child pain and trauma. And no child deserves that. People should only bring children into the world when they’re mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially prepared. Not to save a toxic relationship.
