Danushkodi - Kodi Swamigal Thava Boomi
Tip of the Indian Peninsula
Kodi Swamigal Thava Boomi
It is another interesting place in Dhansukodi, where you can see a small hut or home meant for mediation. This place is called as Kodi Swamigal Thava Boomi why because a saint called Kodi Thatha meditated here for 18 years in this place. People generally visit this place to take rest and do meditation.
The Eternal Living Saint of Dhansukodi
Every spiritual person aware of the mystic Kodi Swamigal. The information presented on this is a collection of various artefacts from devotees, publications & other resources. The fisherfolk of Dhanushkodi, while visiting the sea for their fishing duties, saw Kodi Swamigal in intense penance. They considered seeing him a lucky charm. However, they did not realise that this was the gift of a lifetime, witnessing a miracle that went undocumented in any form. This memory remains in the hearts of the individuals who had encounters with the enlightened being.
A Timeless Phenomenon
When looking at a butterfly, the beauty that we enjoy has nothing to do with its past as a caterpillar. Kodi thatha's actual birth in the form of a Siddha happened only after his tapas(penance) at Dhanushkodi. He, therefore, wants his seekers to know the truth about him from that point in his life. What happened before that is of no significance to us.
The mystical journey
Dhanushkodi circa 1940 -1950
After his intense penance on the shores of Dhanushkodi, Swamigal and Shri, N. Varadarajulu left for the latter's house during the early '50s.
Trichy, Chennai, Madurai & Coimbatore - 1950 - 1962
From Dhanushkodi, the Swamigal seems to have come to Trichy and stayed at Kallukuzhi Anjaneyar temple. He sometimes left Trichy for impromptu visits to Chennai, Madurai & Neikarapatty Zamin in Coimbatore.
Puravipalayam - 1963- 1994
The wandering mystic finally halted at the palace of Puravipalayam. He chose the palace's terrace and stayed there till he shed his physical body.
Age is just a number!
It isn't easy to trace his period of origin to a particular historical time. There is a lot of speculation about the age of Kodi Swamigal. Renowned astrologers who tried to find his age using the lines on the palm of his hand were bewildered when it showed his age as just seven.
In 1986, senior medical experts from England and Spain visited Puravipalayam. They tried to find his age by testing his DNA, but The experts could achieve nothing concrete. He was a manifestation of someone beyond age and the limits of the universe. His gross body(sthula sharira) appeared like the body of a 90-year-old to his devotees.
The Silent Saint
Kodi thatha uttered very few words and always spoke in sukshama(cryptic). However, listeners who understood the meaning of the words found them as valuable as diamonds.
A siddha's state of mind is highly contagious. A person in their presence experiences glimpses of eternal peace and calm that the Siddha has permanently attained through sadhana and tapas.
The ordinary human mind finds it difficult to understand the divine and prophetic language spoken by a Siddha Purusha. Only when certain events come to pass, do we realise the connection to the words spoken earlier.
Kodi thatha decried puffery and kept off from all kinds of ballyhoo. He was hardly known to a handful of people while living in a human form. He detested crowds and constantly tested the sincerity of devotees before lending a helping hand.

Rama Setu or Setubandhanam is another major tourist attraction in Dhanushkodi. It is also known as Adam’s Bridge. This place is situated near to Arichal Munai point. It is a bridge with a chain of Limestones to about 50 km from the tip of Dhanuskodi to Munnar Island in Sri Lanka. Though this bridge is not completely visible, one can see part of it as it is shallow is some places by 1 to 10 meters.
According to Ramayana, this bridge is built by the Vanara Sena under supervision of Nala and Lord Hanuman by writing Lord Rama name on the stones to make it float on the water. This bridge was built in order to help Rama to cross over the sea between India and Lanka and rescue his wife Goddess Sita who was held captive in the demon king Ravana’s place.
Still today, this Bridge has always been in the debate of whether it is a man-made bridge or naturally formed one and studies are still going on. Every year thousands of people flock to this place to see this Theological significant place.
