Indeed, everyone honors and loves to celebrate his or her birthday every year. However, this is not for leaplings since they celebrate their birthday day once every 4 years since it is on a leap year. A leap is dated on February 29th once in every 4 years.
What is a Leap Year‽
A leap year is a unique year since it is once every 4 years. This means that a leap year calendar has 366 days while a regular calendar has 365 days. This is according to the Gregorian calendar which was adopted by Pope Gregory XIII.
According to NASA, the earth takes 365 days 5hours 45 minutes and 47 seconds to have a complete orbit around the sun. Hence this had to rounded of to 365 days.
The extra hours had to be recycled for an extra 4 years to be a complete 24 hours which makes the leap day.
Why do you think the leap day is in February‽
According to the Romanian history, it falls in February.
Well according to BC, and year had 10 months. Winter season was not divided into months. Then the Romanians created January and February as the last month. This is why February has the least number of days in the calendar.
Then Julius Caesar adjusted the months in the calendar to align with the sun system.
Why is the leap day important‽
Leap day keep seasons and the cycle of the calendar. This makes individuals do agriculture at times of the season. Moreover, people can celebrate Religious, National, and international holidays.
Did you know….
Without these leap days in the calendar, the earth could be a day ahead amounting to 24 days ahead in a century.
The famous Halloween could not be happening in the spring when leap days were absent in the calendars.
What happens to leaplings on their real birthday day‽
Leaplings are unique babies since they get to celebrate their birth date once every 4 years unlike other babies born on the normal day of the usual calendar dates.
What do Leaplings do when it is not a leap year‽
Most of them usually prefer to celebrate their birthday on March 1st on the normal calendar years. Others prefer to start celebrating on February 28th extending it to March 1st.
It depends on individuals’ personal decision and preferences when to celebrate their birthdays.
Why are Leaplings unique babies‽
Leaplings are the few babies worldwide who are born on February 29th. Most of them wait for 4 years to celebrate their birthday.

She was born on 29th February and has been waiting for 4 years to celebrate her birthday. Everyone calls her to remind her that is her birthday year as soon a leap year begins on January 1st.
Well, it is rare to find another person who was born on February 29th since there are very few babies internationally.
Another famous Leaplings is Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, American actor, Alex Rocco, of the Godfather film.
What is exciting about being born on February 29th?
For example, Pant who is turning 32 years on normal years, she is turning 8 years old according to the leap year calendar. She will enter a teenage life when she is 52 years old. This is outstanding, growing old but still young!!!!
Another fact is that one will be celebrating his or her 18th leap year birthday when turning 72 years old.
Well, we should celebrate these Leaplings on their birthday since it is a treasure to them, and it only occurs occasionally. Do not hesitate to issue a gift card to Leaplings around you since they are unique creatures, we have around us and should honor their presence.
