The Silence of the Lamb
Kayalvizhi and her mother, Shubha, shared a small, cozy house at the quiet end of the street. Shubha, a dedicated chief nurse at a nearby hospital, ensured Kayal attended school daily, riding her scooty to drop her off.
Lullaby of the Damned

Locals whispered of strange lights flickering in its windows at night, but its true terror lay concealed within its weathered planks. In the dim light of an abandoned shelter, the melancholic strains of "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" played from a battered radio, an eerie soundtrack to a world brought to its knees. The music abruptly stopped, and the silence that followed was a stark reminder of the desolation outside. A man, his voice laced with disbelief and fear, discovered he was not alone. "Oh my god... The door was open. Holy... Holy shit," he stammered, facing the shadow that had survived alongside him, unseen until now.

I find myself in an unfamiliar room lit by soft, yellow night-lights. It's dark otherwise. I'm not sure what time it is and honestly I can't fully remember why I'm here, all I know is I'm awake but should definitely be asleep. I assume to myself I'm house sitting for a friend or relative, not unusual for me, and sit myself down on the couch in the middle of the living room. My eyes aren't heavy, my thoughts are always too loud for me to sleep. The usual trick for distracting my brain long enough to finally drift off is watching videos on my phone, so I pull it out and assume the routine of scrolling.

You know what was super neat about this movie? It takes place in modern times. It's hard to tell at first but then you see the main character has a flat-screen TV and a c.a. 2010's Subaru. But for the most part, the setting is pretty old fashioned. Rotary phone, old appliances, c.a. 70's garments; the kind of thing that gives the movie a retro feel. It's kinda like It Follows (2014), how the setting is 70's but they have modern things like cellphones. It actually gives the movie a feel kinda like Pearl (2022). It feels very Pleasant Valley Sunday. Like a 1950's sitcom, not a horror movie. The setting gives it sorta a zany vibe. It really makes the atmosphere tangible and interesting. It also gives the movie a much more creepy feel than it might have in a modern setting like Dark Skies (2013). Old stuff is just creepy and it really helps the atmosphere.

Dirty Little Bird

At nine thirty at night, not a single person passed by. Sitting against a banyan tree along the dark village road, Cuong was impatient as if there was a fire burning in his heart. Never seen time pass so slowly. Feeling nervous and unable to hide the tension on his face, Cuong clumsily pulled out a crumpled cigarette pack and brought it to his lips. As soon as he opened the lighter, he caught a glimpse of a red face and an empty bottle of wine next to him appeared.
A Wonderful World
Sitting on a chair in a dimly lit room, I feel sick. My body feels cold and nauseous, and the room feels suffocating and eerie. My drooping face feels heavy as I stare at this colorless world before me. I wonder if this place is haunted or if I'm the one haunting it. Is this how the world is, or is it just me who sees the world like this? -"Gouge out your eyes."- I drink more of the faucet water at the dining room table, but I still feel sick, like it just goes into an empty abyss. I don't realize it, but I've been staring at the glass for about 5 minutes now. I love letting my mind wander into meaningless things -"cut your stomach open"- I want my thoughts to become still like the water in the glass, and for a while, it works. I am blank, but eventually, I remove my eyes from the clear, still water and look at my hands to verify if I'm still here. -"Scar your face till you can't recognize yourself."- As I'm staring at my hand and rubbing my fingers together to keep myself present, I see a little spider in my peripheral vision - "Blow your brains out; make sure it's all gone"- I don't kill the little spider I find it mesmerizing it reminds me of the beauty and wonder in this world. "Not enough." I put my hand out in front of it and let it crawl onto my hand, and I wondered what its world was like. What a wonderful world, I can’t help but cherish all the life in it. I feel I have so much love to give. -"Cut your arms."- I love what I don’t understand. -"Tear your skin off, rip it off, rip it off."- I pretend they're not there. I pretend to be distracted. -"Punish yourself, it's not enough, it's never enough, not even death will satisfy"-
