Film Review : 1BR (2019)
We’re so glad to haveyou in the building. It was two months. Two months that I didn’t feel the urge to write down a nuanced and honest opinion about a movie I’ve seen. Maybe it was a lack of motivation because of the limited feedback on my previous writings. Maybe it was because of the enthusiasm with which I threw myself into a “Horror Challenge”. A “Challenge” in which I finally watched 89 films in a period of about 7 weeks. And after these 7 weeks, I realized that I really enjoyed watching 50s and 60s horror. Coincidentally, the movie “1BR” passed during this event and there were words of praise for this horror. Enthusiastically I accepted the invitation from Alok Mishra (one of the producers) to send me a link to a screener. And of course, I’ll be doing something in return by writing this review. So first of all, thank you Alok for forwarding the link.

Film Review: The Shed
If you like creature features with a twist, 2019’s The Shed may well be on your radar already. Directed by Frank Sabatella (The House That Cried Blood), it stars Jay Jay Warren, Cody Kostro, Frank Whaley (Cold Moon, Vacancy), and Timothy Bottoms (Vampire Bats), among others. It’s part vampire movie and part dysfunctional family story – an interesting combination to be sure. It also attempts to mix horror and gore with a touch of comedy.

Tears for Simone
One considers the fate of Simone Mareuil. Famously, her eyeball is sliced in half as the cloud slices in half the moon; Simone's eye is sliced by a demented barber (Luis Bunuel), mysterious and first seen smoking. Outrage follows the public mutilation of Simone Mareuil by the audience; who, in that era, could expect to be horrified by such graphic scenes of sadistic butchery. What were Bunuel and Dali attempting to convey by foisting upon the viewer this outrage?

My Review of "Fantasy Island"
Fantasy Island is a Blumhouse horror movie that's exclusive to Amazon Prime. It came directly to stream in 2020 so we didn't hear too much publicity about this movie. It's a pretty good cast for such a movie and the idea actually quite intriguing but the movie ultimately falls short closer to the end of the movie.

**SPOILERS** If you have not seen the film Thoroughbreds please be aware that the following review contains spoilers. When I was in high school I discovered cult classics. Every weekend my friends and I would watch another: The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Heathers, Donnie Darko, A Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Reservoir Dogs. We loved the movies that were so weird they were known for it. But always, aside from their crazy characters, bizarre scenarios, and at times overt violence, these movies deliver powerful observations on the sheer oddity that is society and human nature.

My Review of "His House"
His House is a horror movie that came out not too long ago in 2020 exclusively to Netflix. This film had a ton of potential and I really wish they'd make one with some slight changes to it. Still there was a lot of great art direction to this movie and the idea was still very interesting. I just thought it kind of fell a little flat for me.

Blood Vessel
Wicked of Oz productions and Co-Writer/Director Justin Dix delivers a well made low budget WWII horror flick. What set's this cheekily titled Blood Vessel apart from other micro-budget films? This film drips in ominous atmosphere. The set department, costumes, and special makeup effects turn this little vampire flick into the film that could. The visuals drip with dread and salt air. These are all seasoned filmmakers and they take everything they learned and turned a tiny budget into a fantastic little beast. This flick has teeth, figuratively and literally speaking. Justin Dix has leant his practical makeup effects, props, miniatures, animatronic characters and set pieces for feature films and television work. They've produced work for films such as Star Wars Episode 2 and 3, Charlottes Web, The Loved Ones, The Bank Job. They've been attached to nearly every Australian Horror Film in the industry. They've also worked Dying Breed, Wolf Creek, Red Hill, Rogue, Lake Mungo, The Babadook, and Scare campaign, to name a few. Filmed in Melbourne Australia.
