Is Another the Most Horrifying Anime of all Time?
When it comes to the debate of scariest anime of all time, several shows genuinely stand out. Some fans would say that Parasyte: The Maxim is the scariest since it makes them weirdly uncomfortable, while others might argue that the Corpse Party, because of its unending gore, is the most horrifying one. There are numerous others, including Hell Girl, Serial Experiments Lain, etc. that are good candidates, but none of them has been able to match Another’s shock value, which was released back in 2012.

Circus Freak
The harsh Atlantic wind whipped the McNally girls’ hair against their cheeks. The air smelled of rain and cold, a warning of snow yet to come. The youngest of the three, a little girl no more than five years old, shivered in her sister’s embrace. Tears fell from the little one’s emerald eyes as she watched her oldest sister place roses on their parents’ burial spot.

The Skinner
I swing my hatchet and it cuts his shoulder, blood gushes out as he falls in pain, screams so loud to almost deafen you. “You deserve this.” I pull my hatchet upward and it releases his body. He breathes faster and faster. Blood gushes out of his body. His blue plaid shirt now soaked in red. I take hold of his foot and begin to drag him back to the cabin. He struggles, but gives up after a minute. He knows he won’t win this. I tighten my grip on him and keep pulling.

Why try? I remember being asked that question as a teenager. My parents would walk in on me watching my favorite ghost hunting show and scoff. They’d ask me why I focused so much of my time and energy on such a pointless topic. They used to say that the interest would pass and I would move on to more important passions.

A Filmmaker's Guide to: Gothic Horror
In this chapter of ‘the filmmaker’s guide’ we’re actually going to be learning about literature and film together. I understand that many of you are sitting in university during difficult times and finding it increasingly hard to study and I understand that many of you who are not at university or not planning on it are possibly stuck of what to do, need a break or even need to catch up on learning film before you get to the next level. This guide will be brief but will also contain: new vocabulary, concepts and theories, films to watch and we will be exploring something taboo until now in the ‘filmmaker’s guide’ - academia (abyss opens). Each article will explore a different concept of film, philosophy, literature or bibliography/filmography etc. in order to give you something new to learn each time we see each other. You can use some of the words amongst family and friends to sound clever or you can get back to me (email in bio) and tell me how you’re doing. So, strap in and prepare for the filmmaker’s guide to film studies because it is going to be one wild ride.

Time To Go

The Fairy Ring
Tonight is Halloween. One step light, one step heavy, swinging uncontrollably from left to right I started walking home late after a night's revelling at the pub dressing as Count Dracula's bride. I refused a lift from a mate because I didn't want to risk the chance of throwing up in my amigo's new Mercedes. Besides, I felt extra foolhardy and adventurous after the countless shots I put away in my hollowed legs that I challenged everyone for a sleepover at a cemetery but no one was up for it. At my age, it seems most of my companions' sole ambition is to be dull and unassuming. Father always told me to blend in with the crowd for security reasons. But father was not here. On top of that, I must have walked this path a thousand times and know it like the back of my hand. I could walk home backwards with my eyes shut and I never felt I had the need to fear anything at all, in light or the shadows.

The Dark
The man awoke in the dark wooded forest. He was laying down, and not sure how he had gotten there. In his hand, he felt the familiar feeling of his handgun. His 9mm pistol. With a flashlight that he always took out with him, no matter the occasion. The familiarity did little to put his mind at ease as he sat up, wondering where he was and how he got there. He looked around using the flashlight on his pistol, seeing only the seemingly never-ending forest around him. He stood up and started walking in a random direction, hoping to hear either the familiar sound of a road or maybe stumble upon a house where he could get some help.

Saving A Soul
It was the middle of fall. The leaves were turned as the nights became chilly. Some people were home snuggling with hot cocoa while others with apple cider. It was a perfect night for a scary movie as the moon was full and tomorrow would be Halloween. Others like Richard were up to no good on such a night.
